Exclamation Seals For Wheel Bearings ~ 1958 Pacer

I did an extensive search and found everything but what i needed.

I took my 58 Pacer in to a reputable RV dealer to get the bearings repacked before a trip next week. After disassembling the hubs they found that the bearings and seals needed replacement. So far so good. Apparently they found the outer bearings and seals. The inner bearings were another matter.
Apparently the last maker of the inner bearing seals went out of business 12 years ago. They put in a call to Airstream and had not heard back from them before closing Friday.

My question is; Does anyone have a line on these seals. Apparently they are or were leather/fiber? (?)

They also informed me that both sides of the trailer had broken leaf springs. So there is some work to be done there.
To answer your question, yes this is the original axle.

Any help or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

I am in Northeast Phoenix, 40th & Shea. The Pacer is at Bell Road RV.

Andy......."What's the number on the old seals?"
The seals are at the RV place and I can't find out until tomorrow morning.
I will get the number and let you know.

Thank you both for your replies.

Most members in the past that have had seal-bearing replacement questions have found that the parts are available at good auto parts stores like NAPA. The key is finding the number stamped on the seal. Parts like this are not Airstream specific.

Nice talking to you AZP! My trailer is at 40th and Thomas Road.

As Lee states above, a replacement can be had by dimensions versus application. Having the part # on the part works very well. The original leather seals may not have a # and you may not want to get a leather seal as more modern material has a far better service life.

John.

Unfortunately, Airstreanm no longer stocks that grease seal.

The Trostel # is 30-156-6
The National # is 290944
The Chicago Rawhide # is 18808

The dimensions are ID. 1.875
OD. 3.002
thickness .375 inches.

Hope this helps you.

Andy

The #5 Napa store on this list has 2 in stock
Store Locator Search Results | NAPA Online

I called there and they used the National # listed above to look the part up.

Andy and Action .......
Thank you both for your help in locating the grease seals. They actually found them at the NAPA store in Scottsdale as you suggested. The cross-reference part numbers were really a big help in finding them.

They had already taken the hub to the NAPA store previously and they told them that they didn't have anything like that. Once I got the numbers from Andy specifically the National number 290944 they were able to find the seal. Also the correct dimensions were a big help.

You guys are the greatest and thank you very much. As an aside note, I was so happy to get my Airstream back that I took the mechanics a case of beer as a thank you. I am virtually sending one to you guys too by email
