Putting modern wheels on a '79

I'm about due for another set of tires and would like to replace my old, possibly original steel wheels and mis-matched hub caps, with aluminum wheels as are put on the new Airstream trailers.

A year or two ago I put a new set of GKN axles on my trailer which use lug nuts as opposed to lug bolts, and I know I need to get the pretty closed end nuts so all will look nice.

Question is, what tire size do the new trailers put on these aluminum wheels? I assume the bolt pattern will match up with my axles but is there anything different regarding wheel well clearance or axle spacing that makes putting the new wheels and OEM tires on a problem?

Thanks,
Christopher

Chris,

I don't think you will have any issues as long as you stick with OE. I know that you will have to choose between 15" and 16" wheels. I think you would be better off with 16"

I just bought new tires and wheels from here. Tredit Tire - Tires and Wheels for RVs and Trailers

I got 4 wheels for 380ish.
