Offset for 16 inch rims

If I change to a 16 inch rim on a '73 Globetrotter (for the improved tire selection) can I continue with a zero offset wheel?

Ask the Master

I don't see why not. Member markdoane told me the wrong offset only affects the tire rubbing on the shock mount or fender. PM him for additional insight.

I'm assuming the wheel is the only thing changing and NOT the tire diameter (wheel-well interference)

Tom
p.s. If you do PM markdoane, start your missive with "Oh great one! Please share your infinite knowledge with this unworthy one!" markdoane eats that stuff up.

When I changed to 16 in. wheels I had to use one with a 5mm+ offset to keep from rubbing the fender with the E rated tires.

I do know that the vendor I used has supplied many Airstreamers with 16 in wheels and could answer the question.

Wheel

When I measured the steel Airstream wheels I found all five to have a 8mm offset.
The Eagle Alloy Rims I went with have a 8mm offset.

Hmmmm. The Dexter axle I ordered with the Nev-R-lub hubs is in and will be installed in a few weeks. Dexter specifies zero offset with those hubs. The Michelin LT225/75RR-16 Michelin LTX M/S E tires arrived today. Yesterday, I ordered a pair of 16" steel rims with zero offset from http://www.trailertiresandwheels.net...78/page/910764

After seeing this thread, I called and left a message asking them to call me about my choice. I wonder if the hubs have painted me in a corner where the tires are going to rub.

Keep us posted Audiobox. I too just installed a Dexter Nev-R- Lube axle, but am currently using the stock rims.

Will do. I talked to Scott at Trailer Tires & Wheels this morning and he didn't think there would be a rubbing problem. He confirmed the recomended zero offset recomended with the Never-R-Lube hubs. Installation is in about two weeks. I'll report back.
