The two piece lug nuts are always a problem sooner or later, you did the right thing by getting rid of them. They were just a bad idea from the start in my opinion.

Common problem??? Yupp, happened to me several months ago. I found 24 solid lug nuts on Amazon for sale at around $20, replaced AS nuts with the Amazon nuts, & threw the AS nuts away. There was a string of posts about this several months ago, just after the problem occurred for me.

Two piece nuts are notorious for separating and jamming....even on new truck wheels. When the jacket finally falls off you need a different size socket. Like most, I replaced with a better grade one-piece when it got ridiculous using two sockets on one wheel.

I ordered the least expensive package of 24 off Amazon for $19.99.
I know many people have suggested McGard, but they were way more expensive.
I have had very good luck with my cheap ones.

+1. Installed the McGards when I installed the 16" wheels and Michelins. Can't say no worries, but less worries anyway.

AccuWheel LNA-12000C6 Chrome Bulge Acorn Wheel Lug Nuts (1/2"-20 Thread Size) 1.4" Tall - Pack of 24 Lugnuts
Sold by: JK Collection
$19.99
Ordered these from Amazon a year ago when I got my Sendel T03 wheels. LT tires, Dill TPMS, and Centramatic balancers.
The still appear as new and the tires still appear as new with no noticeable tread wear.

Ok, just to confirm before I order, either the Mcgard 64010 or the AccuWheel LNA-12000C6 Chrome Bulge Acorn Wheel Lug Nuts (1/2"-20 Thread Size) 1.4" Tall nuts will fit by 2017 FC. It has the 15" rim and I'm going to the 16".

Yes.
That is the lug nut I ordered for my 2013 Classic when going from 15" to 16" wheels.
1 year later and the tires, wheels, and lug nuts still appear as new.
The hub/brake drum/axle should be the same on your trailer and my trailer- same lug pattern.

Sendel Lug Nuts- four sets & locking nut $29.00

I have a running Thread that solves the problem with the two piece lug nut.

'16" Sendel Wheels & 16" Michelin LTX Tires' Been running since March 22, 2016.

Below is the lug nut set for four wheels and that includes a socket and a lug nut keyed to the socket for security. I have had no issues with these lug nuts.

All of the lug nuts from my Airstreams are in a box on a shelf. I have encountered people trying to remove the original lug nuts and mangle the outer metal skin making them unusable. When you use a socket on them, you will also 'mash' the metal skin, for a lack of a better term.

If you get the lug nuts from Sendel... you cannot go wrong. Although they could be purchased somewhere else for less... you could end up buying them after trying the others. No rust issues on either lug nuts.

*******

16" Sendel Wheels and Michelin LT225/75R16 LTX M/S2 Load Range E tires. S20-66655T, 16x6 at a cost of $106.40 each.

-16" Sendel Wheels
Five wheels @ $532.00
One set of lug nuts for four wheels @ $29.00
Handling/Boxing charge in three cartons @ $22.95
Delivery via FedEx Ground 3-21 tendering date / delivery date 3-24 from CA
Total Cost: $583.95 Performance Plus
