Lug Bolt Torque setting
I have a '79, 23' Safari. Is anyone aware of a preferred torque setting for torquing the lug bolts?
Thanks

140 pound feet should be good.
Are you running new lugs, lug bolts and steel wheels?

Tighten... Drive 5 or 10 miles, re tighten. Check again next day then every 4-5000 miles.

Greg,
The Tq should be stamped on the head of the lug bolt. It should say tq to 110ft.lb provided you have the original axles with lug bolts.
That is the spec from the owner's manual.
Do as CWF suggests with the re-torque procedure until stabilized.

Just a curious question here. You keep mentioning lug bolts. Not lug nuts. My 63 Overlander has lug nuts. Do some Airstreams have lug bolts instead of lug nuts? Ala Volkswagen and other German cars with lug bolts instead of lug nuts.

Many of the 1960s Airstream trailers originally had lug bolts. (My '66 Overlander had bolts) The wheel centered on the hub of the drum and was secured with bolts.
I am suprised your '63 has studs and nuts unless the axle was replaced. And at it's age the axle should have been replaced.

Action: it's very likely that they have been replaced. They seem to be in good working order.

You may also have the original axles with new hub/drum assemblies.
