How do I get these off???

I'm trying to get the center caps (cones actually) off my '73 Excella. It has the mag wheels. The cones spin (well atleast 2 of the 4 do) but they won't seem to come off...? Is there a trick (short of pulling the wheels off and pushing them out/off from the inside)?? I tried tapping with a rubber mallet and they seem like they are denting slightly so I stoped that approach. Does anyone know how to get these off?

Remove the wheel and they will fall out.
The wheel holds them in place...

Yup just take the wheels off and push em from the front side,or they may just fall out by themselves.
