Converting from lug bolts to studs and lug nuts
Hi All,
I have a 1975 Airstream Tradewind as of two weeks ago. The first item I purchased for is was a new set of galvanized steel wheels, tires, center caps, and lug nuts. Oops... didn't even realize I needed lug bolts. So, now I'm leaning towards keeping the nuts and converting from bolts to studs.
My question for anyone who has does this before: Do you think this one would work: https://www.trailerandtruckparts.com...0-_p_1132.html
Or, if you have a better source, let me know. I've read some posts about people buying studs that are too long or too short, so I want to try to get it right on the first order.
Thanks for the help.

stud installation
That looks like a good price, check the shipping cost. Also make sure both ends are threaded 1/2x20, some are not.
I have a '77 Argosy and '08 factory alloy wheels which have recessed holes for the lug bolts so I needed the long bolts just replaced mine with the following parts from Trailer Parts Superstore
24 Long Chrome Lug Nut, 1/2"-20 Thread #90052 $35.76
24 1/2"-20 x 2" Screwed-In Trailer Wheel Stud #ST-500 $45.36
Shipping $14.26
Total $95.38
Put red thread locker on the short end of the stud and jam 2 lug nuts on the long end and then screw it into the hub. The studs extend 1.25" after installation.

You would be much better off if you replaced the drums.
Older style drums typically are way out out balance, since they are 2 or 3 piece. New style is one piece machined.
Keeping the running gear in proper balance, can be a real issue, if ignored.

Good idea. Any recommendations as to where I should buy them?

Airstream parts stocking dealers would have them, but also they can be drop shipped to you to save on freight.
Airstream parts from a non-Airstream dealer, do not carry the factories warranty, as per Airstream.

HA! The trailer is 40 years old. I'm not too concerned about a warranty at this point

Not on the trailer, but on everyday parts.
All Airstream parts sold through an Airstream dealer, carry a warranty of some kind.
