changing 10" hubs to 12"

Okay, I am getting down to reworking the running gear on my 24 foot, 78 Argosy and am contemplating changing to 12" hubs.

Are their any real issues with making the swap other than the groaning and whining that typically goes with it

You can do that with a new axle.

You cannot install 12 inch hubs on a 10 inch spindle.

You also cannot install 12 inch brakes when the mounting plate is designed for 10 inch brakes.

More than likely, considering the age, your axle rubber rods have gone south.

If you are replacing the axle, it is not a problem. If you use the existing axle, the bolt pattern for the backing plates to the axle are not the same.

thanks for the quick answers, I need to mull it over ..... I really hate to get into the timeline of adding axles, but that may be the right answer since I am going with replacing everything else.

I've checked, and there is a difference in bearing size between 10 and 12 inch brakes. I haven't had any success finding oversize bearings so you can use 12" hubs on 10" spindles.

Terry,

I remember a couple of months ago about commenting that Alko make a 12" brake backing plate with both four and five hole spacing. No ability to use the 12" backing plate on former 10" brakes because of the lack of appropriate bearings?
