Centramatics on 76 31' A/S

In looking over previous post and the Centramatic web site it looks like the 300/556 balancer are the ones that I will need for my 31' A/s. I am going to call them later to day and place an order. Is there anything else that I need to relay to them to make sure that I get the right ones. I have 16" Eagle Alloy wheels with BF Goodrich commercial TA tires. I replaced the old lug bolts with 1/2" wheel studs.

Thanks Don

Don,

I used to have a set of Eagle alloy "star mags" on my old Suburban. They looked really sharp!

I used to have a '77 Excella 500. That's a fairly hefty trailer. Are you sure your wheels are rated for the weight?

I'd assume that since you've gone the route of 16" wheels so you can run decent tires, you've already gotten heavy duty wheels. Just thought I'd ask though.

It is hard to find good 15" tires anymore that are properly weight rated. I'm running Maxxis UE-168 tires on my 34' Avion right now. Been trouble free so far. Having the two extra tires (triple axle) really gets the load per tire down

I dealt with "Tudor" (sp?) a very nice Texas gal at their shop south of Fort Worth. As these wheels (WESTERN, Model 26) are 5.5" bolt circle, 6-bolt, 15", she advised me to use "A" unit, stock number 300-556 (4 ea).

She may have asked me about brake drum or disc and size along with the above.

The pieces are a nice close fit to the drum.

Bummer!

After 4 phone calls over as many days with credit card in hand to Centramatic I can't get to any one to confirm what I need and take my order. Each time I speak to someone they take down my information, name and phone number and assure me they are going check on exactly what part number I need, availability and will call me back. I have yet to receive a call back.
I am going with the Dyna Beads product.

Don,

As an effective alternative to either Centramatics or Dyna Beads, look into a product called Ride-On: Ride-On | Tire Protection System It not only dynamically balances your wheels and tires, but it fill flats if you get a tread puncture and the most important feature....IT WORKS!

I tried it first on a motorcycle about 6 years ago and never know that it worked for flats until I was cleaning the chain and my hand hit something sharp while rotating the rear tire. There was not 1.....but 2 punctures; a nail and a screw. The tire never lost air, and I have no idea how long they were in there....but the heads were worn off!

Lew this sounds like a great product. Takes care of two potential problems, flats and balancing. Is this available at retail auto supply stores I wonder.

Thanks for the tip. I am going to check this out.

PS the RV 500 is working like a charm.

When I asked Centramatic for balancers they sent 200-221. They fit but I feel the diameter of the ring is to small. The tube part goes into the wheel rather than over the brake drum. May not work with aluminum wheels. Balancemasters on the TV work really well but I did not want to spend that much on the AS. Balancemasters have a problem dealing with Canadians as well. Centramatic was easy to order.

AFAIK, the web site is currently the best place to buy it. I'm so impressed with this product that I'm seriously considering becoming a dealer for them!

Your RV-500 should give you a lot of trouble free service. Just keep the bugs away from the LP burner .

Lew if your impressed then I am impressed. I ordered from their web site kit #10416 that has four 16oz bottles this morning. The cost was $54.99 + shipping.

They should arrive in a couple of days just in time for my trip from Houston to Destin FL.

The guy you want to speak with at Centramatic is Jerry Robertson. He helped me get squared away with the correct balancers.
He has an email address:

Ask for Tootie at Centramatic, she works after 10 Central time and is thier RV specialist.
I called last week, was taken care of in ten minutes and had 6 of them on my doorstep 3 days later, no muss, no fuss.
They will ask you your bolt spread, wheel size, number of lugs and drum or disc brakes.

I put centrimatic balancers on our 31' several years ago and am really pleased. You will not find drawers opened and things on the floor after a three hundred mile trip. Should improve the overall life of the Airstream due to better travel balance.
