Baby Moons
Having a ruff time finding baby moons to fit trailer rim Dexstar 15 x 6 JJ. I have the chrome trim ring’s that works but having problems finding the baby moon, 10 1/8" I.D. will not work. Would the 10 3/16” I.D. or the 10 1/4” I.D. work?..........This will make my third attempt
I found that Baby Moons from etrailer.com work OK, you may need to adjust the rolled lip a little with a hammer, or a seam roller if you have one. The were a little tight out of the box. Maybe there was too much paint on the wheels.
They rust out if you don't wax them. They're inexpensive, about $15 each.
Here are the part numbers for the wheel and inside the baby moons.

The Dexstar rims are brand new and the 10 1/8" should have worked but they don't. The company sold baby moons with the rims and they could not make it work, my guess is that Dexstar changed something.

Actual measurement is 10 1/4. I don't know if eTrailer still sells these exact baby moons.
I have another baby moon I bought from a local junk shop that is 10 1/8, but it was made on a different press. The sidewall is a different height. So that proves to me that there are two different manufacturers.
The ones I have needed to be opened up slightly. I hammered the bead down by about .025", so I know they weren't originally 10 1/8. They may originally have been just slightly under 10 1/4".
We did the same baby moon search last month, 2 strikes & called Jackson Center. They gave us a part number that linked the '07 Winick Bambi wheel/hub, we then had to order through a dealer & have them drop ship-but they worked! Ordered 2 to have a spare for next time (sad reality), total with shipping was about $50.

Thanks Mark, this is the info that I'm looking for, going to try
the 10 3/16" I.D. instead of the 10 1/4", hope it works with the 6 lug.
I think for those baby moons to work you need the old style rims with the clips on them. Does everyone here have that style? The newer rims will not fit the old style baby moons.

I do have the older style with 3 clips. The diameter seemed to match, but the clips are waaaay too stiff.
Check out JC Whitney, they have several different styles of Baby Moons. That is where the PO of my trailer bought them.

I am drooling over these pics, I just love baby moons. Sadly, they would be out if place on our airstream since it is a 1989. Someday I will bet a great vintage one, and the baby moons will be my favorite part!
The pic above is of a full moon. Pictured here is a baby moon. I found a pair on ebay from a racing equipment supply outfit. They came with specific installation instructions to keep from denting them. I put a dab of grease on the wheel nubs just in case. They snapped on with a satisfying "thunk". 200 miles later they are holding tight.
