1973 Safari wheels

Hello everyone!
I just took ownership of a fixer 1973 23ft Safari this weekend, whooohooo! Finally! It's been a lifelong dream to finally own an AS! Unfortunately, I know nothing [emoji47] LoL!
So it's currently sitting in storage and has been there for over 10 years.
My plan is to put some new tires/wheels on there and hopefully just tow it out.
My question is what kind of wheels/tires do I buy? Lugs, sizes, etc....it's all a foreign language to me[emoji20]
If I'm completely coming from left field and and too optimistic about towing it out, please let me know. Maybe I need a flatbed to get it to my driveway?
Looking forward to participating in AF going forward.
Sorry in advance for my newbie questions.
Thanks!Click image for larger version

Unless they are split rims, just put tires on it. The baby moon hubcaps will look great polished up.
What is all that crap on the top and sides?

Thanks TG!
Do you know what kind of tires I would need? I'm going back to the tow yard this week and doing a more thorough examination. I can take off the hub caps and seeing what lugs I need.
By crap do u mean the stuff peeling off the aluminum?
I have no idea. I posted a question on the paint thread to see if others have seen this before.

Saw this and your other post re your new toy. EXCITING!
Start with reading the manual for your trailer.

Download it here>

https://www.airstream.com/wp-content...nual.0110i.pdf

PS:
Original tires were 700x15.
Today tires are measured/sized differently. I think you will need 225 75 R15. Either load range D or E will work. That's what I use on my 25' Safari.
Light Truck tires (LT) or Special Trailer tires (ST) will work. If you use Passenger tires (P) they have to be de-rated in their load capacity. There are lots of opinions as to which is best. In order to choose correctly, you have to educate yourself, not just go buy tires.

Have fun!

You are welcome!

When you go back, also pay special attention to the umbilical cord end where it plugs into the tow vehicle. If it is original, you are going to have to change the end plug to a modern 7 pin flat blade. The original was a round pin that will not work in today's vehicles.

A battery in the trailer is necessary for the proper operation of the emergency brake (if the trailer becomes disconnected accidentally) It is illegal for trailers as heavy as yours, as well as dangerous, to tow without emergency brakes.

Does your tow vehicle have a brake controller. If not, you will need one prior to towing.

I will definitely check for that! I'll post pics as soon as I can as well.
I do remember seeing the battery compartment empty. What kind of battery should I get?

Get a roll of tape and secure the awning and whatever else you see hanging, that looks ripe for disaster on the tow home whether on its own wheels or a flatbed. Make sure the door locks secure too as well as all the windows.

That's a good idea! I will try to identify those areas that will be affected by wind during tow. Thanks!

Battery type /size should be listed in that manual.
If you happen to already have a 12v battery, any that is holding a charge will work good enough to get the trailer home. (A starting battery from a riding lawn mower for example)
If you are purchasing a new battery, a deep cycle marine/RV battery will withstand the discharge/recharge cycles better than a regular auto battery.

Zip ties and bungees are also handy for those loose items.
