1962 Safari rims

I am now the proud owner of a 1962 Safari. I am planning on replacing the axles, but how do I tell if I have split rims on the wheels?

There would be a ring with a snall gap in it, that you could easily see that is on the outside edge of the wheel.

They may have been replaced, but if so, with what??
