K\I just bought a set of 16" wheels and 235/70R16 for the 1970 Overland project. I look forward to seeing how they work. The tires on the 34' are due for change out next year and I will most likely replace them with 15" LTX/MS2 They are a slightly lower profile than the existing 15" so end up 1/2 inches smaller in diameter.

I got a quote back from the Airstream Service Center in Jackson Center. The cost to go 16" wheels and Michelin LT tires is now $425 per tire mounted on the Airstream.

I went through my internet research and found that performanceplustire.com had the Sendel T03 wheel (T03-66655T) with a Michelin LTX M/S 2 (LT225/75R16) mounted, balanced, and shipped for $330 per tire.

I placed an order for 5 of these tires and wheels this afternoon.

I will mount the wheels/tires myself when they arrive. I also plan to order a set of Centramatic Balancers. Does anyone have a suggestion where to order these?

Brian

Thanks for the info, Rich. I just looked on the Centramatic website. It lists the 200-221 Special for Airstream 6 bolt. Am I looking in the right place?

Actually, for the 16" SenDel wheels, get the proper sized Centramatic units that are slightly larger in diameter:

300-356 all A plates for 16" rims (installed on our Classic)

200-221 Special for 15” rims (installed on our 25FB)

I forgot about that....I had my CMs before the swap. The 200-221s work fine, but larger diameter would be better, in that thy would become effective at a lower (albeit not much) speed.

I cannot remember the man's name, but there is an obviously older man at the HQ, who know his stuff and is very helpful about AS fittings.

I just ordered the balancers directly from Centramatic. Jerry wasn't in and I spoke to Hugh who seemed very knowledgeable about the balancers to be installed on Airstreams when switching to 16" wheels. He told me that the 200-221 Airstream Specials were the ones that I needed.

I placed the order and the total came to $213.95 including shipping.

Did he recommend the 200-221 over the 300-356 for any particular reason ? I would think the slightly larger version would be somewhat more efficient.

I did mention to him that some folks had recommended the 300-356, and he said that the 200-221 was the one that I wanted for an Airstream that was being converted to 16" wheels. He didn't comment on the larger balancers. He seemed really knowledgeable, so I went with his suggestion.
