My 16" Michelin tire and wheel fit with no modifications to the spare bracket under the trailer.

Was it awkward to put it there?

Very definitely need work clothes on to put the tire and wheel in or to take it out of carrier. It is not a tight fit, but must slide more to the rear of the bracket. Helps refresh old Navy vocabulary.

I wish I would have read this thread last year!

In the past 2-1/2 years since I acquired my trailer (1897 32-ft Excella), I have had 3 failures with the ST tires, the last one causing damage. The tires in question were ST225/75R15(E) - the first set were WestLake (one was badly worn due to the belt shifting and the second had the sidewall separate from the tread). I had 2 tires changed initially at JC to GYM and then changed the other 2 to TowMax. The 3rd failure was a GYM, which blew while I was towing on the expressway, causing damage to the wheel well. I had been using a TireMinder TMPS system that I had purchased at Camping World - the TPMS system did NOT sound when I had the blowout, as there have been issues with the battery contacts in the transmitters.

I have an appointment with JC in 2 weeks to: (1) replace my aging axles with new ones (moving from 4000 lb axles to 4500 lb axles); (2) supply and install 16" wheels with Michelin LT load range E tires; (3) install a Dill TPMS system (which I bought and have with me) which is inside the wheel, so there is no issue with batteries that fail to make contact; and (4) install Centramatics which I ordered online for delivery directly to JC.

As an addendum to some of the comments regarding torquing, I use a split beam torque wrench and follow the advise of JC - 100 ft lbs, check at 25, 50 and 100 miles and periodically thereafter. I'll do this at a rest stop generally, and it only takes 10 minutes to check the trailer wheels - longer for the TV, as I have to pry off the hub caps and bang them on again with the heel of my fist, and those wheels are 8 bolts each.

I have a set of 5 AS 15" wheels that will be available in 2 weeks - PM me if interested.

Note that the Airstrem specified torque values are higher for the SenDel 16" wheels - 125 Ft pounds.,

What I am considering next is ordering another rim from Tredit and carrying it in back of the pick up while traveling which would give me two spares for the truck and two for the AS.

Hopefully we will be able to hit the road in a couple months. Got rearended 55 weeks ago at a redlight and got knocked cold. Now I have neck issues the Doc won't touch until I start to lose use of hands/legs or pain gets so bad I can't stand it and a shoulder that has a severe case of tendonitis from the wreck and hearing loss in right ear. Thus handling heavy tires from truck to AS and back to truck is still extremely painful.

The moral of this saga is do everything you want as soon as you can because one good wreck and it is a game changer.

Get a 2nd opinion. Your doc may be right if treatment is so dangerous that only if you are losing use of your hands, etc., it is necessary. Since there's a nerve issue, have a neurosurgeon check you out.

Well he is a neurosurgeon and the best in the area. I have spurs growing into discs and disc is pressing on nerve between C6 and C7 and very close to the spinal cord on one side.

Every doc I know in area says he is THE GUY.

He had another guy, same story (rear ended) as me and they had to get to him quick as he was losing use of legs and arms.

The MRI shows vertabrae all touching on back side and discs all protruding in front.

At 67 it is a toss up of whether I will go naturally or........................

He says my size saved me as I have a 18" neck. He said if I had been skinny with a 15" neck I would have had big problems on the scene.

Insurance company will drag out settlement hoping I will drop dead and let them off the hook.

When I came to I was stone deaf for several minutes.

I tried pulling the AS a month after and came back home after 20 miles and put her back to bed under her shed as I knew I was in no shape to hit the road with her. I would have to go out for another drive to make sure I am ready.

I just pressure, temp and torque checked my new installation of Sendels and Michelins. I can tell ya that 125# is quite a push/lean on the wrench.

Anticipating higher road temps (until I get a TPMS) I set the pressure of the shady/cold side pair measured at 83 degrees to 72#, the sunny/hot side of 137 degrees to 75#. Taking a short trip this w/e, over a modest hill, intend to stop at the top (10-12 miles out) and re-check all. After the last road trip and multiple blow outs I'm just a little paranoid.

Hummer, I hope you can get fixed up soon. I have similar problems with lumber vertebrae, 2 cysts, arthritis, bone spurs, bad disks. I know how much it can hurt. Maybe you need to look for a surgeon further away—I'm going to see someone 250 miles away.

No wonder I have problems—my vertebrae are made of wood! They've probably splintered and stuck into the nerves.

Lumbar. I must remember to proof read.

Interesting. Mine are torqued to 120 ft/lbs. Maybe I should add an extra 5 ft/lbs Looks like Airstream has an error on their LTX tire max load rating on that spec sheet. It says 2080 but should be 2680.
