I pulled up a tire size calculator on internet and put in the 15" tire size of the factory tires and when I got that info I started plugging in 16" tires till I got as close as I could in diameter and width.
Since no speedometer issues are involved I need only be concerned with them fitting into wheel wells.
Off the top of my head I am thinking the 225X???X16 10 ply rating was very close to the factory size. Normal 3/4 ton truck tires run like 235-265 but the 225s are readily available.
I noted when I ordered axles one side (factory axle) was much closer to the frame than the other so I ordered the axle a little longer to give more clearance from the frame and there is still plenty of clearance outboard for tire removal/installation.
Mine was kind of backwards, I replaced tires and rims before I figured out the axles were shot so the replacement axles had to be ordered with the same lug pattern.
In retrospect if I had realized the factory axles had died I would have switched out to 8 lug axles with the same weight range as I ended up with but since I had the new rims I had to stay with what I had though the Tredit Rims I bought are rated for more weight than the factory rims were.

Just went out for a looksee and the tire size that gave the closest match with what came on my 76 Sovereign is LT225X75X16.
When I got it, there were only four original type wheels (15") and there is one white spoke with a tire that I would describe as emergency only came with it as a spare.
After I got the four up and going I called Tredit/Athens and ordered another wheel and went to a used tire dealer who got me a LT225X75X16 with about half the tread left on it that I had mounted.
Was at a flea market two weeks ago and got a 235 and a 245 with well over half the tread left on them for 25.00 each and am thinking of using the 235 as a 2nd spare for the AS and the 245 as a spare for a cargo trailer I have.
I was impressed with how the AS tires looked this morning as they have been on about three years now and still look prestine clean as the only they see sun light is when they are on the road rolling because when I get to where I will be setting up the covers go back on.
When we get home she goes back under a big shed so no sunlight touches the tires and the morning/evening sun is on the front and rear windows only.
Had a nice discussion with the Corrosion and Material Deterrioration Instructor at Rock Island Arsenal a couple weeks back who I have kept up with for the last 30 years and he told me another interesting tidbit.
Basically when I took the course (1985) we were told the additive put in tires to protect them from sunlight deterrioration (prevents the cracking as we have seen on older tires) had been cut back on standard commercial tires except those sent to lower Calilfornia and Florida.
If you ever look at military tires you will find they are not cracked or show just a very little. I have some military tires dtd 1952 I am still running. Milspec tires are loaded with the anti ozone additive as the vehicles are put on hard stands in depots and or parked in armory lots for months/years have to be able to sustain such abuse.
Subsequently with the radial tires they last so much longer now that the industry had to increase the ozone protectant levels as the side walls and tread would show cracking well before their tread depth was worn down. I have another cargo trailer with almost new tread and they are cracked (as we say in the South) 4 Ways which translates into wide, deep, unnecessarily and often. It doesn't see a lot of use and a couple have very slow air loss but I have a good spare for it now and have them covered when not in use.

My 16" Michelin tire and wheel fit with no modifications to the spare bracket under the trailer.
Was it awkward to put it there?
Very definitely need work clothes on to put the tire and wheel in or to take it out of carrier. It is not a tight fit, but must slide more to the rear of the bracket. Helps refresh old Navy vocabulary.

I wish I would have read this thread last year!
In the past 2-1/2 years since I acquired my trailer (1897 32-ft Excella), I have had 3 failures with the ST tires, the last one causing damage. The tires in question were ST225/75R15(E) - the first set were WestLake (one was badly worn due to the belt shifting and the second had the sidewall separate from the tread). I had 2 tires changed initially at JC to GYM and then changed the other 2 to TowMax. The 3rd failure was a GYM, which blew while I was towing on the expressway, causing damage to the wheel well. I had been using a TireMinder TMPS system that I had purchased at Camping World - the TPMS system did NOT sound when I had the blowout, as there have been issues with the battery contacts in the transmitters.
I have an appointment with JC in 2 weeks to: (1) replace my aging axles with new ones (moving from 4000 lb axles to 4500 lb axles); (2) supply and install 16" wheels with Michelin LT load range E tires; (3) install a Dill TPMS system (which I bought and have with me) which is inside the wheel, so there is no issue with batteries that fail to make contact; and (4) install Centramatics which I ordered online for delivery directly to JC.
As an addendum to some of the comments regarding torquing, I use a split beam torque wrench and follow the advise of JC - 100 ft lbs, check at 25, 50 and 100 miles and periodically thereafter. I'll do this at a rest stop generally, and it only takes 10 minutes to check the trailer wheels - longer for the TV, as I have to pry off the hub caps and bang them on again with the heel of my fist, and those wheels are 8 bolts each.
I have a set of 5 AS 15" wheels that will be available in 2 weeks - PM me if interested.

Note that the Airstrem specified torque values are higher for the SenDel 16" wheels - 125 Ft pounds.,

What I am considering next is ordering another rim from Tredit and carrying it in back of the pick up while traveling which would give me two spares for the truck and two for the AS.
Hopefully we will be able to hit the road in a couple months. Got rearended 55 weeks ago at a redlight and got knocked cold. Now I have neck issues the Doc won't touch until I start to lose use of hands/legs or pain gets so bad I can't stand it and a shoulder that has a severe case of tendonitis from the wreck and hearing loss in right ear. Thus handling heavy tires from truck to AS and back to truck is still extremely painful.
The moral of this saga is do everything you want as soon as you can because one good wreck and it is a game changer.

Get a 2nd opinion. Your doc may be right if treatment is so dangerous that only if you are losing use of your hands, etc., it is necessary. Since there's a nerve issue, have a neurosurgeon check you out.

Well he is a neurosurgeon and the best in the area. I have spurs growing into discs and disc is pressing on nerve between C6 and C7 and very close to the spinal cord on one side.
Every doc I know in area says he is THE GUY.
He had another guy, same story (rear ended) as me and they had to get to him quick as he was losing use of legs and arms.
The MRI shows vertabrae all touching on back side and discs all protruding in front.
At 67 it is a toss up of whether I will go naturally or........................
He says my size saved me as I have a 18" neck. He said if I had been skinny with a 15" neck I would have had big problems on the scene.
Insurance company will drag out settlement hoping I will drop dead and let them off the hook.
When I came to I was stone deaf for several minutes.
I tried pulling the AS a month after and came back home after 20 miles and put her back to bed under her shed as I knew I was in no shape to hit the road with her. I would have to go out for another drive to make sure I am ready.

I just pressure, temp and torque checked my new installation of Sendels and Michelins. I can tell ya that 125# is quite a push/lean on the wrench.
Anticipating higher road temps (until I get a TPMS) I set the pressure of the shady/cold side pair measured at 83 degrees to 72#, the sunny/hot side of 137 degrees to 75#. Taking a short trip this w/e, over a modest hill, intend to stop at the top (10-12 miles out) and re-check all. After the last road trip and multiple blow outs I'm just a little paranoid.

Hummer, I hope you can get fixed up soon. I have similar problems with lumber vertebrae, 2 cysts, arthritis, bone spurs, bad disks. I know how much it can hurt. Maybe you need to look for a surgeon further away—I'm going to see someone 250 miles away.

No wonder I have problems—my vertebrae are made of wood! They've probably splintered and stuck into the nerves.
Lumbar. I must remember to proof read.

Interesting. Mine are torqued to 120 ft/lbs. Maybe I should add an extra 5 ft/lbs Looks like Airstream has an error on their LTX tire max load rating on that spec sheet. It says 2080 but should be 2680.

I'm at JC getting new axles, 16" wheels and Michelin LTX(E) tires installed. At the same time they are repairing the damage caused by the blowout 2 months ago of a GYM. I had them install Dill TPMS sensors and Centromatics. Should have it all finished sometime tomorrow.
My question relates to the Dill TPMS sensors. Right now JC has (temporarily) marked my tires to show which sensor was used (A through E). However, these marking are most likely going to disappear the first time the trailer is towed in wet weather. I am considering using an etching pen to discretely mark the letter corresponding to the sensor on the rim just beside the valve stem. Has anybody done something different to ensure a permanent marking, and if so, what did you do?

Quick question for you: Now that you've moved to 16" wheels, did you also have to get a different mount for the spare tire so the new larger wheel will fit in there?
Regarding our TPMS, ours are valve-stem mounted, so I just keep very careful track of them whenever someone services the tires. Otherwise, I know where they are because I programmed the TPMS receiver. If they were mounted inside the tires, I would ensure the rims were marked in some useful way before allowing anybody to remove any of the wheels, perhaps the same way they did at the mother ship.
Oh, and it's good to know they are willing and able to install TPMS sensors and centramatics when they switch you over!

Have you taken any pictures of the axle replacement work? If so, I'd like for you to post them. Also, are they replacing the original axles? What is the weight rating of the new axles?
Regarding the TPMS, I'd try a sharpie first. I'd also make a little chart and slip it in your owner's manual under the tire section similar to the following:
TP Sensor/Tire Suffix
A 12345
B 12346
C 12347
D 12348
E 12349
Recommended Tire Inflation: XX PSI
Recommended Lug Nut Torque: XXX Lb. Ft.
That way you could renew the sharpie mark as required. I think that if you ever had a sidewall delamination or anything similar, an etching pencil might invalidate the warranty, if any. Also, many tread wear warranties are void on towed vehicles as a point of information.
