Hi Brian

Got my wheels from

Trailer Tires and Wheels - trailer tires, boat trailer tires, trailer wheels, boat trailer wheels, aluminum trailer wheels

at $105.00 each and took them to my tire shop for the Michelins Es.

The wheels I use are the 9th ones down on the page. they are 3600 lbs rated wheels.

Hope you are home in time for The Can Opener.

Howie,

I looked on that wheel site. The ninth one down is $105, but it's an 8 lug pattern with -8mm offset, rated at 3960#

Try the one above it. That is the 6 bolt version. As for the Off Set that works out just fine. There is clearance on the inside and at the fender.

I have had these now for 3 or 4 years and suggested this wheel to several others and no negative comments to date.

The E rated tires don't even show ware yet as apposed to the old STs that either blew or worn down in 2 or 3 years on average.

Go do the thing at JC... Bob or Jim will likely replace your wheels and tires and the Michelin MS LTX is a good tire... I do think that you should stick with "0" offset... It might not be a major problem to do something else, but why tempt a potential bearing problem. In my case I have a brother who is an Huge wholesale and retail tire dealer and I have a bit of an edge on choices and prices ( not free by any measure) and tech advice by multiple brands and their dealer service techs... I'm sure you could get this done by a really good REPUTABLE tire dealer in FLA....BUT,I like the service people at Airstream and if you have never been there -- Well -- Go to Hobo's for B'fst next door.....You can add it to Lucy's adventures...

Andy,

I'm not clear on what you mean about the 10" of flat surface on the new wheels. Is this to accommodate the Centramatics? I have been looking at their website. It's not saying anything about special wheels.

Centramatic has never been in the RV end of the business, until we started it.

Just had their sales manager and field manager visit our office.

The special model that they make is the plan what we went to them.

However, it requires 10 inches of flat area on the back side of the wheel, so that when you bolt the wheel to the hub, with the Centramatic in between those two parts, you don't alter it's shape in any way.

Probably tomorrow, I should post a drawing in our web site, which would be self explanitary.

Centramatic will not have anything on their web site relating to the above comments, as they want us to handle it.

Brian, I got the 16" wheels at JC and picked up the Michelin's at Discount Tire in Dayton. JC balanced the tires on the new wheels and put them on the trailers. I've had Centramatics for a couple of years now. I bought them from Inland, bit the size for 15" and 16" wheels has been available for a while and you can find them on the Centramatics website though it's kind of hard to figure out which one you need.

The tires have been on the trailer for almost 20,000 miles and are wearing evenly so I guess they were balanced ok.

Andy,

What size/model Centramatics do I need to order for the 16" wheels that I will get from Jackson Center?

Thanx for the info, Gene. I take it that you use the same size Centramatics on both the 15" and the 16" wheels on the Airstream.

Yes, they fit on 3 different size wheels including 15" and 16".

Andy,

On your web site you show a #13150 Centramatic for 15" wheels. Is this also for 16"?

I spoke to someone at JC regarding 16" wheels. He said the wheel and tire were mounted when they got them. He couldn't tell me who made the wheels or the pattern.

If Tredit provided the wheels, their T03 wheel sure looks like a Sendel T03 wheel. Does anyone know the choices JC offers, if any, in 16" wheels?

The ones I got there do not have spokes, but have holes spaced around them. The Internationals come with that style according to the Airstream website. They are easier to clean and we think they look better. I was also told the wheels only came with tires mounted too, and then they only came with Goodyear Wranglers. I explained Michelins were better tires. Eventually we worked it out so I could have Michelins. This was at the end of October last year.

I don't know which Michelin Airstream offers. It'll be either one of the LTX line or a Rib. We got the LTX since it would wear out around 5 years and because the Rib is a commercial truck tire meant to be recapped eventually.

We balanced our tires with the commercial "sand" added with the initial inflation. 100' pulling down the road and the tires are "balanced". No weights. :-)

We put 16" BF Goodrich Commercial TA tires (225-75R-16)on our 20" Safari SE and have been very happy with them. We used aluminum wheels from Tredit that appear to be the same ones that COUNTRYSONG used from Sendel. We didn't have any fitment problems with them at all. They also fit into the spare tire carrier without any modifications, so I guess from Crawfordgene's experience, it may vary from trailer to trailer. We purchased the wheels for approximately $75 each by phone, and the tires from the local Big-O. Tredit has a number of stores across the country, and there was a great amount of variation in the price from store to store, so it paid for us to do the comparison shopping. I think that you will be happy with the move to the 16" LT tires, we are.

"New" Tires

I have ordered a set of Michelin LT225/75R16E1 XPS RIB for the Airstream from Discount Tire.

Set came in and they were made in week 29 of 2009.

I know that Michelin discards any LT's that are unsold after three years, and yet they want me to accept tires that are 18 months old.

I want tires made at least in 2010 and have been told that Discount has no way of asking for tires made in 2010. They did agree to order another set in an effort to get newer tires.

48Bob,

Which Tredit location did you order from? Did you get caps too, open or closed?

SRW, where can I verify the info that Michelin discards LT tires that are unsold after 3 years. I personally called Micheling customer service about a tire problem about 5 years ago and was told that tires older than 7 years should not be put in service, but nothing about discarding LT's unsold after 3 years.
