Where to buy or exchange trunnion bars?

I have searched high, low, sideways. . . . for some used Reese 550# trunnion bars for my dual cam set up - I currently have 750# bars and I think it is beating up my trailer. Yes, I know for $300 I can get new ones, but then I will be adding to my accumulating pile of trailering hardware and getting screwed by the same folks who gave me bars that exceeded my needs in the first place. Ang suggestions would be great. Thanks. Hope you are all having a good weekend.

J,

Try a local, not chain, hitch installer or rv supply store. They may have some used ones.

Good suggestion - unfortunately it was the local shop that set me up wrong in the first place. To be clear - I didn't completely understand what the heck I was doing until after having the system and using it a bit - so at the time I assumed they knew what they were doing. I was wrong.

I don't believe there are 550lb bars. I seem to recall only 600 or 650lb bars. I got mine off eBay.

You can get 600# trunnion bars from etrailer for $149.95. Be sure you order a set of retaining clips or something else cheap to get you over the $150 free shipping hurdle.

I have a set, but you're too far away to ship them economically. The Draw-Tite brand is the same as Reese. In fact I ordered a set of Draw-Tite bars and the bars they sent said Reese.

Used

I've been to big sob trailer dealers that have piles of old T-bars like piles of old bones.

Try calling a few local trailer dealers!

I picked up a used extra set for 40 bucks

or call Terry

Keep in mind, you can buy reguler ones, and swap you ends to them. I have many bars, but just gave away a set of 550lbs ?? The guy needed the chains, so I popped off the dual cam end, and swapped them out for a chain set.

Hope this helps

I went to a lot of trouble, but got a set for cheap. Bought a complete hitch on EBAY with 600 lb bars for $200 delivered. Took out the bars, put my bars in the kit, and put it back on EBAY. Sold the kit again with my 800 lb bars for $152 plus shipping. Lots of trouble, but it was cheap.
