If you can, turn the connector 180 degrees, so that the bootom of it will be at the top.

You will get far less dirt in it that way.

That bracket is available separately. I'd just run to the parts store and buy a new one and screw it on for the little amount it costs (less than $5).

HOWEVER, I have always had an issue with the underbody flush in the car wash forcing the flap open and letting water in when it is right side up. This would eliminate this. I might have to try it.
