Broken wire keeper

On my eazlift hitch, where the weight bar chain connects to the trailer tongue, you pry up on chain connection then pull a thin wire keeper down to hold it all in place. Mine broke yesterday and I was wondering if that wire is a common part to get a hold of- I have to assume it was put on by the original owner in '68

You can buy a cheap aftermarket (Dormann)automotive choke control and salvage the wire out of that if you can't track an original down.
