no hitch is worth cutting up a new trailer, it's hensley's problem, so solve it...
vendors.

Umm...I didn't design the truck. It is not my problem, it is GM's problem. I won't be making a 10" drop bar because that would create too much stress in the receiver.
It wouldn't be very ethical of me to make a 10" drop bar, knowing it would cause problems.
We're getting off track, here. I don't make receivers, so I'll leave it up to my friends over at Putnam and Reese to come up with a solution on the truck end. That will certainly happen long before GM makes a change.
The coupler change is the best solution I've heard. Inexpensive and won't look ugly. As far as warranty, maybe someone needs to tickle the ear of an Airstream rep about that. I'm sure someone's already tuned in over there, given the popularity of the Suburban/Airstream combo.
By the way, I have a GM truck (Avalanche), my 4th one. So I like their products, too. This isn't the first time an OEM has made a change that caused the RV industry problems. We always work them out.
these could work for the op, given he's towing a 22 footer...
but the lower bumper fascia would still need some surgery.
on mid size or larger trailers i'd be very concerned about the drop extension handling all the stress from the arrow...

Howdy 2air
The receiver is adjustable to 10" which should clear the bumper fascia easily (at least it looks like it if you look at post #3 photo)... no mods needed. I would adjust it so that it clears the fascia and swap out the 8" Hensley drop bar for a straight bar, 2", 4" or 6" drop...whatever it takes to make up the difference so the trailer rides level.
The 22'er is fairly light...definitely wouldn't want to use it for your 34'er or my 28' slide out.

Sorry, but I see no way this receiver is adjustable vertically, how is that
done? As you can see it bolts directly into the frame rail extensions.
this is MORE that an 8 inch bar will accommodate...
the 2008 FORD SUPERDUTY 4x4 also has this height on the receiver...
the only OFF track suggestion is to modify a 50-100,000$ trailer when other hitch options exist...
or suggesting a/s is looking into this, or that it's ge'em issue ...
there will be LOTS of folks with this issue on NEW TOW VEHICLES...
while the hitch vendor that IS the subject of the thread is ignoring this issue.
so another option for this member is JUST RETURN THE CONTRAPTION, it's still within 90 days right?
if the hitch cannot be used safely and without altering the trailer or tow vehicle...
and the maker suggests it's someone else's problem, spend the 3,000 $ on some other approach.
cheers

see the FORD pic below for just a few 100,000s of potential tow vehicles...
I didn't know that the Ford's SDs were also same height...
Looks like Hensley does need to look at a refresh in design to accommodate the newer truck hitch heights.

That's about what it will take, though "refresh" is putting it lightly. Fortunately, we're looking at new designs already. Unfortunately, that's not fast enough to help out you guys right now. All the ideas posted here are good ones, but not the final solution.

Ron,
We spent some time with Kevin & Prim last weekend or so, talking about the hitch (they love it)... this was sometime after talking with 2Air in Branson (he loves it)... well, maybe "loves it" is a bit strong, but they do swear by it.
$3 grand is alot of bucks to spend, so the company behind the product is the clincher in the deal. Too many businesses use the popular cliche "customer #1" and "service is our goal", and so on and it's usually not more than words on letterhead.
We are seriously considering either the Hensley or ProPride.
This is an issue after market manufacturers have to pay attention to. We're paying attention to it...

Jaxon, you're right. The aftermarket companies have always had to keep up with the trends in the OEMs. It's just part of the business. This receiver issue will, no doubt, push us into a major re-design. After 15 years, maybe it's time anyways.
The last post from C. A Streamer helped me a lot, Bearing in mind I intend to tow a 34 footer with an H2 ,and just to be totaly clear, should I go for the maximum drop tow hitch (10 inches not twelve or who does a twelve? it is mentioned that a twelve is not available) and be done?
