It gets better. I use the hitching rods and always hook up by myself. I'm down to 5 or so minutes.

Thumbs up Lets Ask A Trucker...

A few weekends ago we did our first shakedown trip with haha.

As many of you realize, it was a "why didn't I know about this sooner"

experience.

Everything went well, and I got a lot of helpful feedback from the co-pilot,

"yes dear I feel the difference...no I can't see it moving at all...no it's still

straight....oh yes, much more comfortable.

I was complaining about not being able to really see the rigs reaction as

an 18 wheeler passed us......to which the reply was, "well if you had the

cb hooked up you could ask them"..............DUH!!

I've made my decision

I will have the dealer install the haha on the Silver Lining when she comes in.

Now my husband may need some help with hook- up, so I will let him read some of this thread. We have a Reese now for our 22' SOB, and he is quite used to that hitch.

I haven't had time to read this entire post (great by the way) and the answer to my question is prob in here somewhere but I want to know....how low does the haha hang below the ball receiver? From the photos it looks like 10+ inches.

hi millva'

good question...

i haven't measured the 'hang below' distance...

10 inches is a reasonable guess.

IF your question is an indirect way of getting at 'how much ground clearance'

that figure varies a little rig to rig but should be 7-8 inches...

dragging isn't an issue.

take a look at the pix in posts....153, 175, 203, 212 and 215 for realistic approximations.

cheers
2air'

i did park in an rv campground where the sites were 8-10 above the roadway with 'curbs' to climb...

it was a close call on the lower surface of the w/d bars but still cleared.

Thanks 2air'
The only reason I ask is because I have a driveway that slopes and then levels out. To "level" my trailer the hitch almost touches the ground on the "slopy area". I'll figure it out....I'm getting a haha! anyway!

I just called my dealer
2990.00 plus 250.00 to install (2 1/2 hours to install?)
My dealer is checking with Hensley to see if they're gonna run a xmas special like they did last year. (I thought that was a nice thing for the dealer to mention)
I'm gonna finish ready this thread tonight.... o yeah...and order a pair of the aligning stick thingys!
Thanks!

Question Worried about potential problem

AH, now I am concerned about that clearance. Our current set up 1 ton van with 22'SOB, and Reese hitch, hits the sidewalk when we back into our driveway. We have to put boards under the tires to prevent damage to the hitch. If the haha is much lower than what we have now, I am not sure we can get into our driveway.

The road we live on slopes down at the edges, and then a fairly large lip on the driveway entrance, with a large angle up to the sidewalk, which is of course, level with our driveway.

If we come home and cannot back in, that will be a problem. We could park it in the street for a few days, but not too long.

Maybe we could get some of those things they use to drive up cars to change the old, and lay them in the street to lessen the slope.

Anyone else have this issue and any suggestions?

Robert, is that Portugese Water Dog?

Thanks
Diane

using boards seems reasonable but some report LESS dragging after the switch....

posts 300, 301 and 346 address this issue...

without seeing your driveway (pictures?) and looking at the ball height/ground clearance on your current white box, who knows?

i've got 50,000 miles on mine and richL is full timing. he boondocks in driveways all over america...

i've not read ANY reports of dragging, but i'm sure it's possible IF the w/d aren't tightened...

tightening the spring bars pushes the van nose DOWN which RAISES the rear end and hitch...

i'm sure if you call the haha hot line, someone will discuss this with you and give you honest feedback.

cheers
