Appreciate the input. Ended up buying a Hallmark pop top camper weighing 1370 pounds and a 6'-8" floor. In as much as the truck/trailer weight is 12,800 pounds and the 2500 has a CVWR of 16,000, I'm well within the limits and do not need to deal with hitch extensions.

We would love to see a picture of your new TC rig when you get it together.

Don't know how he did and am not qualified to talk about safety issues, but at a VAC rally this past weekend I saw an Avion truck camper & vintage trailer combination. The Avion nameplate had been replaced with a custom Airstream plate. Looked very cool to me.

OK I am resurrecting this thread.

I have a 2012, Long bed, PSD, F350 DRW on order. I want to be able to add a Truck Camper (TC) and pull my 31 AS classic at times. Visited NorthStar today and looked at the 850 SC Popup and an Arrow Hardside.

Got the grand tour and lots of time with Rex. He suggests getting an Arrow (7.5 feet wide vs. 7 foot Popup). Somewhat conflicted as the Arrow is a more comfortable TC but sticks up at least 18 inches higher in the front.

Also considering the 8.5 foot Outfitter. I have a ProPride hitch and have had no problems towing the AS with a F250.

Any comments? Advice?

Sean, at PP, may have input based on other customer experiences.

It's a lot to ask from a 1T with these combinations, no question.

We are doing close to what you are proposing. We have a 2005 25FB. We have towed her over 80,000 miles and have spent over 900 nights in her. Up until recently, we pulled her with 2500 Suburbans. We have always used a Hensley Arrow hitch system.

About a month ago, we got an Outfitter Apex 8 truck camper and a Chevrolet Silverado 3500 diesel. This is now our tow vehicle for the Airstream. We picked the Outfitter up at the factory in Longmont, Colorado. We took it, towing the Airstream, up into Wyoming for a couple of weeks. We then took them back home to Florida.

Now that we have about 2,500 miles of towing the Airstream with the truck camper rig, I can say that it works beautifully in all terrain and weather situations. We have not had an anxious moment on the road. This new rig's road manners are better than pulling the Airstream with the Suburban.

I would assume that your Ford 250 would do this job in a similar fashion. What you are proposing is quite doable.

Brian
