Switch from Equilizer to ProPride

Has anyone made the switch from the equalizer hitch to the pro pride hitch? If so, were you pleased? Also, any guidance or advice you could give me would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Greg

No, it has been great. I am going to be towing with a different vehicle and will be at the upper limits of my tow range and thought that it might be a good idea to consider changing. I have read so many positive reviews on the pro pride hitch being one of the best, I was considering changing.

Hi

The Pro Pride is a bit heavier than the Equalizer. I don't know just how close to which "tow range limits" you will be and if that has any bearing at all on the decision.

I'd suggest that pushing up against some tow limits is not a big deal. Pushing others can be an issue. A lot depends on just what you are trying to do and what you are up against. I'd also say that going *over* limits is not a good idea. Careful calculation is often worth doing .....

Sorry if this highjacks the thread, but re 'towing limits'... w/respect to TV max towing weight vs trailer weight: a gouge I've used is not to exceed 80% of the TV limit. But recently, a friend said he learned that the weight being towed (and compared to TV limit) is the sum of of the trailer and TV. Can this be so?

Knowing how this topic 'weighs' more on some than others, well said!

Equalizer

I too have an equalizer and it is the best I have ever had. I cannot even imagine using anything else.

Hi

There is indeed a gross combined weight rating. It's one of many numbers you run into trying to work out loaded your rig is. Some numbers (like axle ratings) are very much a "hard number". Various other numbers seem to get as much input from marketing as from engineering ....

If you are on Facebook you can find quite a few Equalizer to ProPride converts in the ProPride group.

Sean is the authority but I will add my two cents - friction does not reduce the forces of sway. It only dampens the effect if the oscillation starts. The ProPride 3P, or any other hitch of projection design, changes the geometry of the connection between tow vehicle and trailer to make the initiation of sway oscillation nearly impossible (I NEVER use absolutes, hence the addition of the "nearly" <sarcasm>).

Yes, it is heavy (approximately 200 lbs) and adds weight to the tongue of the trailer. Yes, it has a higher purchase price than many other non-projection hitches. Does it have magical weight distribution powers that other weight distribution hitches don't have? Uh - no. Is it worth it? Absofreakinglutely! I would ask how much your rig is valued at and then add your life and the lives of those who travel with you to that. The cost is pennies on the dollar for absolute no-sway security.

Yes, I own a ProPride 3P. I have towed many a trailer with many vehicles and have NEVER had the experience be like that when towing using a ProPride. It is THAT good. And Sean is awesome too. And those are absolutes I WILL use and stand behind any day.

Regarding your statement on friction, is there any specific reports, or technical studies that you could perhaps reference.

Equalizer to ProPride

No comparison. ProPride superior to Equalizer. I had ProPride on my 2015 FC 28. Had to switch to Equalizer when I traded up to 2018 Classic 33 because my main storage area door could not open because of the distribution towers behind the propane cover. Also tongue weight on the Classic is already 1175 lbs. Having towed about 6,000 miles with the Equalizer 1400 lb. bars, I have some sway. It is working but no way better than my ProPride. Wish I had it back.

Hi

The gotcha is that we still don't know what limits the OP is pushing with his new rig ...
