Does anybody have a picture that I can use to find studs in the back upper area?
Without going into much detail, I'm building a bike rack/latter off the back supported by the frame- but I want to secure any type of vibration at the top by screwing to some studs!

I'll back up hihoag, there is no structural support in the top of the end caps. They cannot support weight!

Before you totally destroy your beautiful Airstream, do a search on "bike racks" and you'll get the gist of what other people have done and what is and isn't recommended.

Attaching anything to the exterior skin of the trailer is generally a bad thing.

I'm not going to destroy my airstream I'm just researching my possibilities so there's no stud or structural framework there. I will not use that application, thank you..

Mounting Points on the rear of our AS.

I purchased some "Brackets" and "Solid Aluminum" bars directly from ZIP DEE, and made a general purpose rack for the back of our 25FB AS. The solid bars are the same stock as used for the Awnings, as are the brackets. The rack is simply bolted together with Stainless Steel bolts. It is attached to the "stud/frame" under the rear window on the top, and to the bumper on the bottom.

The rack is Easy to remove and attach. I mounted a "Grill Bracket" to the rack for a handy place to hang the grill. I fabricated quick attach bike rack out of some scrap aluminum from a salvage place, which simply slips over the rack for transporting of one or two bikes. Total investment about $100.

I like that.
Lets have a bit more explanation of that last picture. Is it a ladder folded down or just the bike rack?

If I were to start over I would follow you idea.

HowieE,

Here are some additional photos. The rubber clamps for the bike are "Original Quick Fist® Clamp for mounting tools & equipment 1" - 2-1/4" diameter (Pack of 2)" from AMAZON. The BIKE rack Assembly that slips over my RACK is made of surplus aluminum extrusions i found by SODEM-FRANCE, but you could also use 8020INC extrusions you can buy on EBAY, or aluminum extrusions that you can buy at LOWES, ACE, and hobby stores.

The thing that I feel helped me the most, was talking to a sales guy at ZIP DEE who sold me the 4 aluminum ZIP Dee mounting brackets and lengths of ZIP Dee aluminum solid bar extrusion to make the removable RACK. I drilled/threaded the SIP Dee solid bar and assembled it with SS cap bolts. It is very rigid, I can even use it as a ladder to clean and wax the top of the AS.

Once I made RACK, it is not that hard to make attachments such as the Bike RACK, a bracket to hold the grill, a bracket to carry two GERRY cans, etc, etc.

Hope this makes sense.
