Reese Dual Cam Sway Control Hitch Set Up

As I have done some changing around with my hitch and ride height of my TV, I offer these data for those who may be interested. I have not done the final adjustment, but tried to set up the truck as close to specifications as I could. The set up illustrated will give me more weight shift to the front than previously set up and I think this will help avoid some of the vagueness in the steering. So, here is how I have it set at present. I will do final adjustment in a day or so. A larger image is available by clicking the link.

A couple things for you to check.

1) Check the coupler height on the AS when the trailer is sitting level. I think your ball height you have may be too high.

2) 6" clearance from the tip of the trunnion bar, seems rather low, you may want to
increase that to 7 or so inches. This can be done by changing the "tilt" on the ball mount.

Thanks, I will check this out in a couple days when I hook back up to head out for about a 3,000 mile pull. As best I can figure from the Reese info is that a ball height of 18-20" requires the tip to be about 5 1/2" from the ground before tension is placed on it. So, i am close to this. But, will adjust if the trailer is not level when all is connected.

Not an engineer. A retired physician, but as a girl with gasoline in her blood always doing things like this. We will see how it all works out.

My real point was to supply some measurements that were difficult to arrive at, then see how it all worked out I the real world.

Well, having now towed the trailer 3200 miles, i made one adjustment about half way through and now run the connection chains with three loose links, instead of four as originally set up. With the three loose links, the weights are as follows:

Truck front axle: 4380 lbs
Truck rear axle: 4300 lbs
Trailer 7140 lbs

Truck has 150 lbs of generator in the bed, plus 100 lbs miscellaneous.
Trailer with full water load.

So, weight wise I think the setup has it figured out. This towing setup feels like there is no trailer behind the truck. I will be adding a 55 gallon diesel tank in the bed which will be from about 50 - 440 lbs near the front of the bed, or balanced between front and rear.

If anyone has data on the desired axle weights, please post it here.

Not sure what your point is with this post. Without the starting points, original heights or empty weights, this information has no value.

Maybe someone with some knowledge of what ideal weights, in a relative sense, are and will comment. But, I will measure the truck unladen, and see if I can weigh what the front and rear axles are without the trailer hooked up.
