Reese dual cam strangness. help please

Let me tell you whats hapening.

25 foot Safari FB. When I make sharp turns there are clanks. I was looking at the hitch set up and noticed...

The brackets that clamp to the trailer frame have moved forward about 4 inches. Is there a bigger problem for me other than loosening the clamps resetting them to the original spot and tightening them back up?

I'd rather be boon docking in the desert.

Of course, they are not supposed to move when properly tightened. Moving them back to their original position and refastening them should solve your problem. Be careful not to overtighten the can bend/distort the frame. It's best to use a torque wrench and torque the nuts to spec. Bill

Bill called it correctly. Reposition the brackets, and torque them to spec. If you continue to have squeaks and grinds, lube the ball lightly, and lube the tabs on the trunnion bars (with Reese hitch lube or a little wheel bearing grease) where they fit into the ball mount. If the dual cams squeak, use a little vaseline on the surfaces to quiet them. The cams work on friction, so don't use grease on them!
