Recommendation for towing 19 ft CCD with Xterra

We are the proud new owners of a 19 ft Bambi International CCD.

We have a 2000 Xterra with the following specs that I actually got off of a previous post.

automatic, 6 cylinder, 199.84 displacement
wheelbase...104.3
curb wt...4130
Torque 200 lb.-ft. @ 2800 rpm
Engine 3.3-liter 170 HP
trailer load...5000 #
tongue max...500#

From what I have deduced from this forum and other reading, it looks like I will need a weight distribution hitch and the Reese dual cam may be my best option? Would most of you agree?

Second, for those of you familiar with these, can I do the job myself or should I go into the local RV dealer to have it professionally installed.

Don't go by what you've seen posted here. Someone else's xterra may have a different rating than yours because of a tow package or off-road package. Check the DOT sticker somewhere around the driver door for it's towing specifications, or your owners manual to make sure of your numbers. If your under those numbers, even if your close, go for it for a few trips. Don't exceed that tow limit, but if your towing in good weather, flat terrain, good roads, taking it slow, your good. You decide if you need more.

Since your not positive you can install the running gear, have the dealer do it.

You may find that if you tow with that rig in mountain areas you may need more than weight bars. That SUV will be, according to the factory specs, at full tow load (5,000lbs) with passengers, cargo, fuel, and the trailer.

The 19' weighs 4500lbs GVWR alone, meaning you have not only reached the high water mark, but are standing on the line itself. IMHO, you are to the point of needing a better tow vehicle, especially if you go into the mountains.

Yah, that is close. My rig is weighs just over 4000# with 410# on the tongue. I have the same tow specs. Don't have any problems in the mountains but then there's 245 horse's under the hood.
