I need to upgrade the receiver on my 1991 Ford F250. The receiver on it now is rated at 7,500# with WD and my 78 Excella has a G.V.W.R. of 8,500#
My concern is that the existing receiver has holes drilled into the frame, and I’m sure the new receiver mounting holes will not be exactly the same.
What needs to be done to maintain the integrity and rating of the new receiver?
My TV has a max. trailer weight of 12,500 (18,500 G.C.W.R.).
- Curt makes a class V receiver that uses a 2” shank (12,000#/14,000# WD).
- Reese makes one that uses a 2 ½” shank (12,000#/14,000# WD) (I really don’t want to use a reducer to make it work).
- Draw-Tite makes a class IV/V (10,000#/12,000# WD).
- Any other brands you might like?
(I’m leaning towards the Curt receiver, but I don’t know anything about them)!
I will be using a WD (Reese Straight-Line) set up for the Airstream, but I may use my truck to tow a flatbed trailer to pick up building material etc. and would like max. capacity without WD.
