Hello to all:I drive a MB ML320 and tow a 25' Safari.Should I have one or two sway bars?Also, my turn signals work for about one minute than fade off completely.If I remove one bulb(one on each side) they work forever.I can live with this, just don't want to get a ticket.Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.Cheers.Jim
Turn signal problem sounds like a bad flasher unit. Not familar with your tow vehicle but usually these just plug into your fuse box.
Are you talking about the torsion bars that redistribute the weight or a "sway bar" as in the Reese friction type slider that attaches to a mini-ball on the hitch head and on the side of the trailer tongue? Most hitches are designed to use two torsion bars. I think Reese makes a single torsion bar design for small boat trailers that have a single beam going forward to the hitch instead of an A frame. There was a recent thread on 1 vs 2 "sway bars" and I was surprised to hear that there were several people that run two. With the Reese the instructions are to have the friction clamp set fairly light so it doesn't seem two would be necessary. With the WD hitch set-up correctly I haven't seen the need for even one and since they also say to remove it for slick road conditions like winter driving in the mountains I don't see the need for two under any circumstance with my 24' trailer.
If you're at the point you're buying a hitch I'd probably opt for one of the designs that has sway control integral with the weight distribution system like the Reese Dual Cam or the Equalizer.
