Greetings Remco!

I just happen to be spending the holidays at my farm so have ready access to my '65 Dodge Coronet 500 that has a Reese weld-up class III receiver installed. It is too dark to get good pictures this evening, but I should be able to take photos from several angles tomorrow. The Coronet is a mid-size so it will be somewhat smaller than your Imperial, but the basic configuration of the hitch attachment should be similar. I will try to post a photo or two tomorrow to see if they might help.

Greetings Remco!

I finally got the photos together. The lighting wasn't very good as we have a Winter Storm moving in. I hope that the detail will provide the information that you need. This first photo is of the attachment of the reciever tube to rear-most frame members. A 0.25" bar was fabricated that extends between the two frame rails and is welded to each of the rear frame rails. The collar for the Receiver tube was then bolted to the bar that spans the distance between the two frame rails.

This photo is of the forward attachment point (approximately 3" forward of the rear-most leaf spring shackle). A 0.25" bracket was welded to the frame, and the forward 1.050" square tube portion of the hitch was then bolted. This is on the curb or passenger side of the vehicle.

This is the same bracket as in the previous post - - only on the street or driver's side.

In this photo you can see the center tube from the rear bumper looking forward to the forward bracket (1.050" square tube) that spans the distance between the frame rails approximately 3" forward of the rear-most spring shackles.

This photo as well as those appearing above are all of the the Reese Weld-Up Receiver that has been on my '65 Dodge Coronet 500 for more than 25 years.

Greetings Remco!

Since I had both of my vehicles with weld-up Reese Receivers in the garage, I also photographed the one on the Cadillac Eldorado - - it was just completed less than two years ago. It is entirely welded - - it is not bolted to the vehicle at any point. The welder who fabricated it invited me to observe the work.

It is different from the hithc on the Dodge in that it is a single 2.50" square tube that spans the distance between the rear frame rails and its brackets are welded to the rear frame rails. The view in this photo is of the curb or passenger side bracket to frame rail attachment.

I suspect that this hitch would be better suited to vehicles with frames rather than unit body construction as on the '65 Dodge Coronet 500.

In this photo, you can see the entire hitch on the '75 Cadillac Eldorado. It is a simple design than that on the '65 Dodge, but that is in part due to the heavy duty body on frame construction that the Dodge didn't possess.

In this photo, you can see the detail of how the receiver tube attaches to the 2.50" square tube that spans the distance between the frame rails. This is on the '75 Cadillac Eldorado.
