LR3 hitch base... calling all LR3 TV owners...

Before I go ahead and purchase the pricey factory Land Rover LR3 tow hitch base/receiver for my new Land Rover LR3, I wanted to make sure that this IS in fact the receiver I would want to be buying in order to tow my "In the near future" 19' International Airstream" with. I haven't purchased the Airstream yet, but want to get the hitch receiver so that at the very least I can stick my yakima hitch mount bike rack on the LR3... Thank you so much for any information!

Thumbs up Rare

Welcome aboard...
You may have a hard time finding a receiver in the aftermarket. I just checked the Reese website with no luck. There may be a member that is using the LR that can point you in the right direction.
When you check out the factory unit inspect the welds carefully, and a robust build. One of the first things I had to do on the 06 Burb was change the receiver.

Better to have more than you need than to need more than you have.

Keep us posted on the Stream search.

Warnings

Dont be alarmed if you get a warning in your dash.It will probably be for brake light and or parking lights. These vehicles tend to do this with the LEDS being on the Airstream.Talk to the Rover dealer about this and see if they have a fix for this.It will work fine with regular bulbed trailers.

I tow a 19" Bambi with an LR3. The expensive dealer tow bar is probably the only thing available, though I have seen the OEM part on ebay and a couple of other sites that specialize in Rover parts. The other thing you'll need to do is get the wiring harness set up. Unless your truck came with the option- but I think the tow bar is included, so I assuming it isn't already wired. It can be done at home, but if I needed it- I'd have the dealer do it. They do a nice job and you'll get both outlets with cover plugs neatly placed under the removable bumper panel.

You'll want a brake controller, that you can easily do yourself. I have the prodigy and it works great. The Ford F-150 brake controller harness fits perfect. There is a lower kick panel panel that you will need remove (its mounted with screws) to take off in order to plug the harness in, the fitting is right at the top of the brake pedal. Good luck and happy trails!
