Is there a standard size ball for smaller trailers?

I'm a newbie and still at the short end of my learning curve. I would like to be ready if I find a 20 to 24 foot trailer that meets my needs and is in decent enough shape. I am looking primarily for a 20 to 24 foot argosy from the 70s although a lighter shorter AS would also work.

I have a factory 2 inch hitch, brake controller that is wired with a 7 pin set up and a ball mount that puts the ball at about 19 inches. I don't have a ball yet or chains and was thinking I might pick them up once I find the right unit unless there is a common sized ball, then I might get things now and be ready to take a trailer for a test pull when I find one to inspect.

So is there a standard ball size?

All of the Airstream, Argosy and Avion trailers I have seen have a 2 5/16" ball hitch.

My Bambi II uses a 2 inch ball. Never hurts to have spare bars and balls in different sizes.

I believe that the change from 2" to 2 5/16" came with the 1969 trailers.

All Argosy's in the 70's had a 2 5/16 ball.
