Is blue ox hitch good enough for 25FB FC

We are about to get a 2016 FC and dealer has offered to throw in blue ox hitch. Will this give me a stable tow? I haven't towed one in many years and one his long before. Any input appreciated

First of all, welcome to the forum.

I have a 2009 25FB International and use a BO hitch and it does very well. I have not towed it for thousands of miles yet so I would not say I'm an expert. But so far so good!

Maybe good enough, depends on your tow vehicle and where and how much you plan to use it in the near future. Can't beat the price though.

There are three parts to a good towing combination, all woking together. The travel trailer (Airstream with tandem axles, low center of gravity, streamlined rounded design, and independent suspension is as good as it gets), tow vehicle (with similar characteristics), and hitch (properly set up and adjusted).

Get all three right and suited to your own particular needs and lifestyle, you won't be good enough, you'll be outstanding.

Just because they're throwing it in don't think it's not an excellent hitch. Just be sure you get the correct spring bars (probably 750#), and adjust height and number of links properly.

Okay guys, two Blue Ox fan boys nixing all other fan boys before they can make a pitch. Not fair.

Anyway, I think that 750 lbs w.d. bars would be too light for the new 25 FC, depending on tow vehicle, and amount of weight carried in the tow vehicle behind the rear axle.

Hey Doug...

The OP asked if the Blue Ox was "good enough" for towing his trailer. I don't have doubts as to whether it's good enough - it's good enough. As to whether there might be superior solutions available, well that's what gets threads started.

I probably shouldn't have mentioned 750# spring bars specifically though as that's the responsibility of the professionals who do his installation.

I have a 27 FC FB and a 2009 Silverado LT and the blue ox system. It tows beautifully. Trips to San Fransisco from Portland OR, trips to the Coast over the coast range, trips to central OR over Mt Hood. No issues what so ever with the Blue Ox.

Is it "good enough", a "stable tow". John I think with your Mercedes SUV or Michael's Grand Cherokee, the answer is yes.

With our pickup truck, higher center-of-gravity and solid axle rear suspension, maybe not so much. After a couple of hitch types, we finally got a projected pivot point hitch to get the stability we needed for many cross-country travels.

FWIW, I use 1000# bars on my 25FB.

Just make sure what the dealer "throws in" is for the proper tongue weight. I have the 1500 # model of Blue Ox for my 2015 FC 25FB and it tows nicely.

I just did 8000 miles with my BO on my 25 Safari with a 2500 GMC diesel. Never knew it was back there.

I do not have a Blue Ox. But I have been on caravans with very experienced Airstreamers who do use the Blue Ox hitch and like it. I think it will give you an excellent tow. Good company. Good people run the company. Some of them are fellow Airstreamers. And they make a good hitch. Plus they have a lot of experience making tow rigs for toweds.

I use 1,000 lb bars with our 27 FC FB & its Blue Ox (as recommended by the local AS dealer). So far, no problems.

Note: I'm not Brock Lesner & don't like the steel lever bar provided with the Blue Ox for adjusting the chain tension. Therefore, I bought a 1 inch, 1/2 inch drive, 6-point, deep socket from O'Reilly Auto Parts & a 24 inch, 1/2 inch drive, breaker bar from Harbor Freight, and those work a whole lot smoother & less effortful.

I have a Blue Ox on my 2012 25' rear bed. It works good. I took off a Reese Duel Cam that was on the trailer when I bought it. I found the Blue Ox to give a more stanle ride on my 25' RB twin Flying Cloud.

I like my BO, and it is important to note that it is quiet compared to the Equalizer, which relies on steel to steel friction.

I have been towing a 25FB for a year now with a Blue Ox with 1000 lb bars. I have towed it with a 2015 Audi Q7 TDI and a 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500. It works fantastic!

Ditto on the breaker bar with the socket. Much better leverage and control. I would highly recommend making this change.

Wish we knew what the tow vehicle is, and how much gear you carry behind the rear axle, as well as how many passengers. Otherwise, it's all kind of guesswork.
