2 TV's, one HAHA?

Brand new HAHA owner.
Still in the box.
Installing this weekend.

Q:
Is it possible to (easily) configure this hitch to be swappable between to trucks?
That is, will I need to buy a second set of anything?

The two trucks have identical receiver heights (so ball heights should stay the same?)
But that’s where the similarities end
Suburban 2500 & Dodge 3500

I’m hoping its just a matter of marking where the settings are (after I scale each rig)…

Any thoughts?

Both vehicles have different suspenions. they will squat differently under the same load.

Give Roger Willliams AS (in TX) a call. I know David swaps between different TV and trailers.

the hitch STAYS attached to the trailer, not tv....

so if the receiver height is the same and you went with the 1400lbs w/d bars...

the only adjustment between the 2 towing units is jack tension....more for the sub, less for the ram.

there are other minor details that have been covered elsewhere, like the potential of needed 2 different stingers...

on the sub side, the stock receiver is INADEQUATE for a 30/slide tongue mass, and should be upgraded to class 5 capacity.

you're not kidding the OEM was inadequate... I upgraded to a Reese 'Tow Beast' class V...

Yes, you lucked out with your tow vehicles being the same height.

thanks all... can't wait to try the HAHA... i've got about 5500 miles with this rig using an equalizer brand hitch... looking forward to evaluating the performance difference... btw- the equalizer hitch performed flawlessly during that time (the chevy receiver is a whole 'nother story)

Just got the Tow Beast for our "new" tv. That GM reciever was the only

weak link in an otherwise great rig.

I need to upgrade the receiver on my Avalanche, too. The receivers in question were supposed to be in the '98-'06 model (give or take), but the one on my '07 Avalanche looks like the same one. Even had a rep from DOT up to the shop and he agreed that it looked the same (took him for a ride with the 33' Sunnybrook on a very windy November day, he was very impressed).

Did you guys compare the Reese with the Putnam heavy duty? Just wondering what pushed you toward Reese.

The difference I noticed was the mount channel. The Putnam from what

I could tell from several different photos only had three small mount tabs.

The Reese looked more substantial all around the price was comparable,

and the Reese was in stock at the local shop.


FWIW, I included a few photos of the OEM recievers. You can make up your

own minds.

The Reese Titan will require a reducer sleeve to get the 2.5" opening down to a standard 2".

The Putnam XDR is already a standard 2" receiver tube.

The adaptor sleeve might be another source of noise. Other than that, not a big issue. This is my third GM truck (well, 4th since I totaled Avalanche #1 last fall) and I've seen cracking around the welds on one of them. I probably abuse my trailer more than the average weekender, though. I take it back on the two-tracks for hunting camps and such. For the full-timers, I'd definately recommend an upgrade. It's not just GM, either. We've heard of a few high end SUVs with really substandard receivers.

Which is why I'm not terribly concerned about OEM brake controllers. They'll go with the lowest bidder and the aftermarket will be there to pick up the slack.

Supposed to be ordered with the reciever but some how got overlooked.

There going to weld it in for nutt'n, but I had hoped to have it installed

by now!

half dozen of one.... actually, if i'd known the other make had a 2" receiver, i would have gone that way... can you see any issues with permanently welding (AOT just a few tacks) the sleeve in there?

i didn't visualize any cracks in my GM receiver... but the tube steel receiver itself was bent upward so severely- it was essentially zeroing out any WD from my 1200/12000 equalizer brand hitch...
