Hitch height

Hi All,
I'm about to go pickup a new AS and I'm trying to setup my hitch a little in advance.

I hope you all can help. The trailer is a new 30 foot international. 8800 lbs gvw, just under 900 lbs dry hitch weight, 3/4 ton dodge diesel, 12000 lbs Reese hitch with 1200 lbs equalizer bars. The specs say the trailer hitch height is 17 3/4".

So my question is how high should I set the ball on the hitch as a good starting height and to where do I measure?

Thanks in advance for the advise.
Kelly

Just to get it home, I'd set it about 3/4 - 1" higher than the published trailer tongue height. You measure from the top of the ball to the ground.

Of course, after you get all your stuff in the trailer and truck, you'll have to spend some time dialing it in for travel. Many post on this subject. Take the time to read up here on the forum.
