Wow, thanks everyone. This was extremely educational. My shopping list is getting bigger. When I full-timed in my 1973 25' Tradewind I had a pretty old hitch with sway bars and chains. It seemed to work just fine behind my Dodge 3/4 ton w/ Cummins . . . I don't remember any problems and I towed at least 20,000 miles my first year.

All the same, after reading this, as well as following Rich Luhr's blogs, I am wondering if I should spend the money (that I don't have at this point!). I won't be doing a ton of miles in the near future, although that being said I live in the West and miles add up fast. Also, I am thinking of a roundtrip from Utah to Ohio next year already for Alumapalooza.

The argument that I have a lot invested in my Airstream and tow vehicle is a compelling one . . .

My new setup is a '62 Safari, 22' behind a Tundra 5.7 liter V8.

Utahredrock,
All of us on the forums have different budget constraints so keep your eye open for a used HAHA or Propride. They are out there. I bought a used HAHA several years ago, completely disassembled, replaced some worn parts, regreased and repainted it. I have about $600 or so in our hitch. If I had to pick now it would be a PP hitch based on the few tweaks to the design over the HAHA.
