Hensley Arrow on a 2006 GMC 2500 - what is the 'drop' for the stinger?

Hi guys,

I just bought a 2006 GMC 2500 6.6l Duramax 4x4. It is stock height. Just wondering if anybody has this set up and could tell me how many inches the drop of the "stinger" that connects to the truck is. Thanks!

You really need to do an actual measurement for your truck as tire height can affect this figure and whether of not your GM truck has its OEM receiver. Many owners got rid of the originals as they were so weak.

To measure for the Hensley, get your trailer perfectly level on level ground. Measure from the ground to the top of the opening where the stinger goes. Do the same measurement with the tow vehicle loaded with the stuff that you carry in the truck when you travel with the trailer.

Keep in mind that Hemsley makes their hitch bars in 2" incriments (0-2-4-6-8-10"). Also be aware that ProPride make a height adjustable hitch bar for the Hensley Arrow. They are somewhat pricey ($500), but can be an answer to adapting to changing situations.

I was just wondering how much drop other people have used with their stock (bone stock in height) 2006 GMC 2500 4x4 Duramax Crew Cab short box with the stock reciever hitch. I currently have a 4" drop hitchbar, but I was wondering if other people have to order a 6" drop bar for this application. The 4" drop was for a 1998 Suburban 3/4 ton with air helper springs. (My big problem is finding enough level ground for the truck and trailer to both be perfectly level - I live in very hilly terrain)

If you have a STOCK 2006 GMC 2500 4x4 Duramax Crew Cab short box, what have you used. I'd like to see if the set up I have will work before I try to get in touch with Hensley.

measure the RECEIVER height (inside top of 2 inch box) and post it.

there are many many posts with pictures of receiver height/stinger drop and selecting a drop.

the haha manual explains selection and their tech support will also supply the info.

SOME of the variation depends on the TONGUE weight and w/d tension required to dial in the rig.

and the condition of the trailer AXLEs also affects this.

many of us were/are INbetween 4 and 6 and must compromise to get the ideal combo...

thankfully that's NOT an issue 4m nemore.

I went outside and measured. To the inside top of the reciever hitch box is 20.5". This is with the truck unloaded and sitting in my 'almost' level driveway. Should I put some weight in in the back of my truck before I make my measures?

so that puts it in the 6 inch drop range...

could be a tad less but if the trailer axles aren't new, 6 is probably good.

i'm at 20 (with the truck FULL) and use ~6...
