Help with Hitch Setup

I am transferring the ProPride hitch and 30' Flying Cloud from VW Touareg to GMC 2500HD Duramax CC standard box. I have 1400# spring bars on that setup, but my GMC does not need that much equalize the weight. I was told it's ok. I'm sure several of you drive the similar TV and trailer and would like to hear your setup such as how high/low the hitch bar is set, at what degree offset, spring bars, etc. I don't have any access to experts locally, hence my questions here. Thanks!

I don't use a ProPride now, but I did with a GMC 2500 and also with my current Ram 2500. I would adjust the stinger height so the draw bar is 1" higher than the box on the hitch when the trailer is level. I would also use the 1400 lb. bars you currently have. As you probably know, the ProPride bars are rather flexible, and will not give you too harsh of a ride, at least mine didn't and I had the same bars.

After hitching up, I would adjust the bars so the front fender height of your truck is the same height as unhitched. Fine tune as needed from that point.

I would also suggest you give Sean at ProPride a call and discuss this with him.

Sean just shipped me a new PP for my (hopefully soon) inbound '15 30' Classic. He shipped the 1400's with it -- same as I had on the '12 28' Intl CCD. Email or call him. You'll hear back within minutes...

I talked with one of the ProPride staff and said the same thing - use 1400# spring bars. they are going to ship me a few replacement parts to fine tune my hitch system with my new truck. Can't wait to start towing!

Out of curiosity, why the switch from the Taureg?

... any problems or issues?

... & was it the V8 gas, or V6 or V10 diesel?

I ask cuz we're looking at getting a T-reg cousin - used 2005-10 Cayenne S V8 to tow our admittedly much smaller/lighter vintage 1960 Avion T20.

TIA
Tom

What is the truck year model? The latest GM requirements have a range to them. You may not need 100% FALR (though I would adjust it that way the first time) and it may be easier to set it at 50% or more after driving it some. Sean is savvy to these things so read your operators manual to cover it with him. You may not need heaviest bars.

MJE, the PP on my 2015 2500 Duramax (20 inch tires on the Sierra) had the top of the stinger at 14" for a 2014 FC25. I think the Airstream factory published hitch height of the 30's is 1 inch higher. I had 3 of the washers on the tilt pin.
