Question: Is it possible to use a front mounted hitch on a HD TV to move or back a 30 C AS. Or? Would the weight factor be a problem, for a front mtd system. This question should probably have been posted in the dolly thread. Sorry, I could not locate that thread. Woppa4

Yes. I have used it on the 34' with a 900 lb. tounge weight. it will squat the front. I would not go fast enough to bounce the springs, just like I would not without distribution bars on the back.

Sure it can be done. Not sure what size TV you're referring to, but I used to have one on a 3/4 ton Ford years ago. The PO put it on for mounting a winch, but I used it a few times to move the TT. My rig at the time had a tongue weight of approximately 750 lbs.

The problem for me that I'm so used to backing a trailer from the rear that it really messes with my brain because the steering inputs are different when manuvering from the front. And rearview mirrors don't work worth a crap this way!!!

I use a forklift at work to move mine around at times and it's always comical.

I'm not a Dodge man, but it would seem to me that you're TV has more than enough backbone for the task.

Just curious as to the reason why you're considering this option. Can you share more detail?

Kevin: My previous TT was 8' wide, also 30' and my storage shed was built accordingly. I am concerned that my tolerance for error in backing into the same area with my new AS is intimatedating (using a mega cab TV). That is why I was considering the possibility of pushing it in. woppa4

from the tongue weight i don't think you'd have a problem, after all, they put plows on them don't they. i seem to recall that some diesels don't have much reserve capacity due to the weight of the engine. when you get some scale weights, you'll know exactly where you're at both axle wise and weight distribution wise for the rear hitch.

I understand your reasoning, but remember that your visability will not be as good when you use a front hitch on a TT. The absense of of sideview mirrors is a real visability issue. If your AS is of similar size, I'd use the back in method with a good spotter.

I know you don't want to DING your new AS and I don't blame ya. If you practice it becomes easier. If its dark in your storage , use a drop cord lite on the drivers side of the trailer where you want the back corner of the trailer to be and back to the lite. I in my 45 yrs with big rigs saw lots of lite bulbs mounted under docks where it was dark and the tractor was outside in the lite and its impossible to see where the back corner of the trailer is. Also those GMRS two-way radios are invaluable and inexpensive compared to a panel repair, but you will need a helper for guidence.

Thanks guys. The front issue is dead. Back-in it will be. If needed; I will widen the building rather than damage my pride and joy. Tomorrow! My wife will start training as a back-in spotter. If damage occurs, divorce is also an option. woppa4

Thanks for your generous offer. If I had not upgraded my C chip, air in-take, and exhaust system. I might consider your offer. However. Today I am installing rear drop lights and off to RS for a two-way radio set; as Roger suggested. I may have one problem; my wife,s radio skills are somewhat suspect. Could consider a day labor hire for the job. Would have to refresh my language skills. Trent! If all fails, would you be arriving by Lear or Greyhound? Mel

I installed a front-end hitch because it allows me to get into some tight spaces much easier.

My long truck can turn the trailer with much faster responses pushing and going forward than it can while backing because of where the steering wheels are.

However, it takes a helper to spot for the blind right side when pushing into a tight spot, and I use a hand-held mirror for the left side.

I installed the front hitch after a frustrating session at a really tight camp ground that ended up with a lot of my overheated transmission fluid on the ground.

Even though the tongue weight might overburden the front end somewhat, it is only for a few feet and does not cause any damage to my vehicle. In addition, I can use the trailer's tongue wheel attachment when on pavement to push it into place, which takes all weight off the front end of the truck.

Yea, I can understand the upgrades to your truck have put it over the threshold of giving it away!

BTW, I will be arriving via BlackSheep, my 2001 Dodge 3500 and will tow the MegaCab home with a Blue Ox 10,000 lb tow bar.

What was the address again?

And to think I just delivered a FEMA camper in Selma yesterday morning!

Trent.That is Salem Al, adjacent to the great football mecca of Auburn. However, we are Tide people. I attended my first college football game at South Bend. ND vs Army. If my wife goofs-up on the AS backing exercise, I may need one those surplus FEMA trailers. I suppose you still have access to at least a 10/12 footer. Mel
