Ford hitch 2.5" to 2" adapter

There was an earlier thread wherein someone had experienced a poor fit using after market adapters to reduce the 2011 Ford Super Duty 2.5" hitch to 2". Some may have received the adapter when they purchased the truck, but I as others did not. I too had problems with after market adapters, one bought from a truck supply center, one from a national brand auto parts store, and one bought from Uhaul. All three were very poor fits resulting with a very sloppy connection. I had mentioned I had found a brand that worked well in that thread, but couldn't remember the brand name at the time. I went to my shop and still had the box. It is a Cequent Performance Product #58102 and fit very snugly both in the receiver and around the stinger. Google it and you will find it. I've got several brands lying around, after some guy (not sayin' who!!??) after unitching at home and putting the stinger and all away, forgot that he still had the adapter in place but no lock pin in place ... this guy drove off down the road in my nice GMC 2500 ... and somewhere along the way, the adapter fell out. So I started buying them, but none fit real well. Glad to hear of one that will fit.

My hitch fits perfectly from the factory.. I have a job 1 truck with the 3.31 rear end. Maybe thats the reason I don't need an adapter.

Mine fit perfectly from the factory also ... but if you're gonna' tow with a 2.5" receiver and a 2" stinger, you have to use the (factory supplied) adapter. So: if you manage to lose the adapter (or um, ah, er, have some guy lose for you!), you'll need a new one.

the early 11s had a 2 inch receiver, while waiting for the mid year UPgrade...

to the higher rated 2.5 inch version.

check your window sticker/invoice,

there was a 125 ??? dollar discount for the older receiver, on those 'job 1' trucks.

dually trucks have come equipped with the 2.5 inch receiver 4 a long time.

and the oem sleeve/adapter fits nicely, at least mine does.

the 2 inch receivers ford uses have been very good for many years.

The guys on a major ford forum are all over the map on this topic. With the ford part, a lot (like 2air) say it fits perfect. Mine and others are too small and sloppy, others say it fits perfect if you hammer it in.

Just one question....why on earth do manufacters put a 2 1/2" receiver on these trucks? Have you ever seen a 2 1/2" drawbar on a WD hitch? I have not. (sorry, I guess that's two questions)

My 3/4 ton GMC came with the same sloppy adapter, and between it's slop, and the natural slop needed for insertion and removal of the WD hitch drawbar, it was just too much. My solution to the problem was to weld a 2" receiver into the 2 1/2", and the problem was solved.

I understand they want a higher weight rated hitch, but why don't they just use thicker 2" ID receiver material?

I guess the engineers said they needed a larger size in addition to making the tube walls thicker. Yes, I have seen a 2.5" drawbar on a WD hitch, mine!

Good question. I don't have the answer but it does make one wonder.

When I make the 2.5" receiver end of the hitch bar for the 3P it adds 5lbs to the piece. 19#(2x2) to 24#(2.5x2.5). The sleeve is a lot lighter but we do whatever makes our customer happy and the 2.5" is what some want.

Curt Mfg. does make a high rated receiver with a 2x2 opening.

I keep a stinger in at all times as a bumper protector.

Just picked up the Ford 2.5 to 2 inch hitch reducer...

Yes- it was costly but fits perfectly...

Although I have a 2.5 stinger ordered from Sean - still nice to have the reducer if ever needed...
