WE are using the weight distributing hitch for the first time tomorrow to bring home the 66 tradewind. We have never used this hitch before. What is the best way to set it up? We are towing with a Dodge 1/2 ton four wheel drive truck.
My first tow was in April with my half ton 4x4 dodge and the trailer was about 7" high in the front. I have since bought a new hitch with a ten inch drop and it rides level now. Is your hitch height adjustible?
The real key is the rig must be as level as possible when hooked up to your truck assuming a double axle, if to high will add weight to the coupler, if to low will take weight away. And as Andy has said when hooked up have someone stand on the coupler and bounce and it should have some flex if not to stiff and will add stress to the trailer NOT GOOD.

ETRAILER has a good video on their website to show you how the rig should set with weight distribution and why. Watch it before you go to get an idea.
