I wish I had known that the Reese hitch had a brain.

Rich, good to know. Andy's and your experience matters and builds trust.

But why does Sean at ProPride recommend 1400# bars, and they also work so darn well. Before this I had a light duty hitch with no bars (Andersen) and it did not work well with our rig, poor steering control. And that would be my concern with light hitch bars on a half ton truck and heavy tongue weight.

I, frankly, don't know. I don't know how Sean rates his bars, but I would never put ANYTHING over 1000# bars on my 30'er. It would be interesting to see flex measurements of Sean's bars against some others, like my HAHA 1000#ers. I think my Hensley 1000# bars are a bit too much, but there are no other offerings.

There is no consistency of bar ratings on the market, in my opinion and experience.

Rich I think your 30 Classic and our 25 FC have similar tongue weights, your truck is a 3/4 ton and ours a 1/2 ton (rear coil springs). A lot of the flexibility I see in our combination is in the truck and Airstream suspensions, especially in the truck.

Andy usually recommends light bars on a heavy duty truck, and heavier bars on a light duty truck. That also makes sense to me and may result in good ride and "enough" weight distribution in either rig.

Doug, I use a bunch of (company) tow vehicles. When I was using the Reese w/800# bars, I also used them on Escalades, YukonXLs, Avalanches, 1500s, etc. They worked very well. This was without a lot of weight in the back, like my scooter, boat motor, SIB, etc. With the 1/2 tons, I had more WD applies and had every bit of 2 - 3" of bar flex. With the 2500s, not so much needed.

Here's an example I dug up out of the archives. This is a Yukon XL (2011, IIRC) with actual Sherline TW at 850 - 900#s.

We use the 1400 bars from Pro Pride cranked to 6" with our rig and we ride level without beating up the trailer.

Don't you have about #1,350 TW? If so, that would be reasonable I'd think.

Doug, Nice rig!
