Factory Receiver Hitch Dodge Ram 2500

I know of at least one person here who has replaced his factory receiver hitch on his Ram 2500 pickup because of reports by some owners on the Dodge Truck Forum of welds breaking. I only have about 8,000 miles of towing now with my '12 2500 Ram, and have inspected my receiver and all looks good.

My question for owners of the Ram trucks is, have any of you actually had a problem with the factory receiver hitch, and if so, what was the problem?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

I pull a 25' and a 32' with a 2007 Dodge and the original receiver. It has been checked a couple of times and the welds still look good.

Back when I got my 99 there was a recall on the hitch receiver due to cracking. I replaced mine during the recall and it is still doing fine after 500,000 miles, some hauling really heavy stuff.

I have heard of no problems with the newer hitches with the 2.5 inch receiver which is on my 2013 and I suspect on yours also. If there are problems I would like to know also

My '13 Ram 2500 came with a class V hitch. I haven't even had a chance to use it yet! But honestly, by the looks of it, I'd never guess it was rated for 10,00 lbs. (just doesn't look THAT sturdy) But it's a manufacturer hitch and I'm guessing tested at much more than 10K in the first place.

Still have the original 2009 receiver. Welds are good. My only complaint is the receiver always has a sloppy fit for the various drawbars we use.
My brother's 2012 factory receiver had a good tight fit for the various drawbars we use.

I have the 2011 Ram 2500 HD Crew Cab and have logged 23,000 miles towing our 28' Slide Out (9100lb GVWR, ~1,000 lb of tongue weight) up the length of the Rockies and over to the Green Mountains in Maine, as well coastal flat lands, with nary an issue. Factory class 5 hitch inspection reveals no indication of weld, or any other wear issues, and receiver fit is close but not tight.

Actually if you have the 2.5 inch receiver I believe it is a 15000 lb hitch. You also should have recieved an adapter to use the common 2 inch hitch heads.
Mine is a bit sloppier than I would like also.
Mine is also a 2013 Ram

I have a 2014 Ram 2500 4x4. It has less than 2,000 miles on the ODO, 1,400 of those miles were towing my trailer. It does have the stock Class V hitch with a reducing sleeve. Also, have a PP hitch. Tows beautifully, no issues at all....but I will be checking underneath as part of the usual pre-departure routine. The vehicle is rated for a lot more weight than I'm hitching and pulling....

I have a 2005 dodge 2500 quad cab 4x4 diesel and I am just about to turn 150k miles on it. Out of those 150k miles I've towed trailers up to 10k, my 27 FB at around 7k, boats, etc for about 50k of the 150k miles. No cracks yet and still pulling strong.

We removed by cutting torch the factory 1,200 pound rated hitch and installed a Curt 15049 hitch rated 2,550 pounds tongue weight and rated to tow a 17,000 pound trailer. The 25FB had a 1200 pound tongue weight and I did not want to be at the limit on a factory hitch.
