Now that sounds like a plan!

However, now you must remember that your hitch has become a weapon of greasy destruction. Every time you approach the back of your TV on foot, you'll be at risk of catching the dreaded "trailer pants" disease (e.g. grease stains on your shins). Please don't ask how I know this.

Not to worry, "trailer pants" happens only when you've taken a shower, put on fresh clothes and then walked past the hitch, getting ready to head out somewhere special or to hook up for the next leg of the journey. It happens mostly when you're too lazy to walk around the TV and attempt to step over the hitch. Lesson learned.

Curious if anyone on this thread uses an AirSafe hitch in conjunction with their Equalizer. I seem to be getting a lot of bounce with my 30 footer which I did not seem to have with my 25 footer. AirSafe claims that there hitches will take the bounce out of the ride.

Yes, we are using an Airsafe EQ combination. It damps out the shocks nicely, but you still see a lot of 'bounce' with respect to the truck. Plan on lifting close to 100 pounds when putting it in the receiver. Eat your Wheaties, they "ain't" light.

So far, just one trip from northern Oregon to Death Valley and back. On the return, we came up I-5 from Bakersfield because of weather around Susanville. That's about as crappy an interstate as it gets. No popped rivets, no damage of any kind. We are pulling with a F350 crew cab, long box.

Thanks Drathaar for the info. I am still trying to visualize how it all is set up and installed and which flavor of AirSafe to get.

I think there is a photo of mine a few pages back.

Edit: Yup, http://www.airforums.com/forums/f464...ml#post1573636

We went with a Class V because of tongue weight.

The creaking I can stand, it's that occasional THUD that sounds like it's reverberating throughout the entire chassis that freaks the wife and I out. It seems to only happen when we're going slow up a small incline and at an angle.

We'll see tomorrow if it is any more quiet.

I didn't notice any creakin' or poppin' or clunkin' or thumpin' yesterday. I may be on to something. It didn't sound like the Titanic or the Exxon Valdez or the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald or Lusitania-

Definitely on the right track, though I always thought it sounded like we were hauling a trailer full of groaning zombies before we learned how to quiet things down.

Drathaar after looking at your pic it appears that you simply attached the original hitch to the AirSafe. Hopefully that is a secure connection. Thanks for the info and the picture.

I'm taking delivery of a new 30' Signature next week. I'm planning to twin up the Airsafe with an EQ. TV is 2012 Ram 2500 4WD. I used an EQ for the past 10 years on a 28' 2004 International CCD with great results. The dealer (Albany RV) is pushing the Reese which doesn't excite me. The only other option would be to go to the PP, but the $$$ is an issue.
Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated

Dealers are always pushing what they get the best deals on. I think you will be fine with Equalizer. It is so easy to hook up I keep thinking that I must be missing a step.

+1 ...
The EQ is definitely one of the easier to hitch up.

Another +1 for the EQ hitch. We use the bracket jackets and grease in the usual places, which keep the thing fairly quiet. My question is where do you all store the shank and bars once you unhitch at your campsite? I put a cover on the ball and then toss everything into the back of the 4Runner. But with all the grease, it's become a kind of a mess back there, mostly on the removable rug which I clean from time to time. I don't care too much about the grease on the rug because that's just what happens, but I wonder if there's some better, neater way to store all those greasy parts when they're not in use. I've thought about leaving the shank and ball in the hitch, secured with a locking pin. But the greasy bars need to go somewhere too. It's just so easy to throw them in the back of the 4Runner. What do you all do with yours while you're camping?

I just put mine under the trailer. Too heavy and messy for me to put anywhere else.

I usually just lay the bars across the battery box and put the ball/hitch section under the trailer on a hard plastic tray so it slips on the grass

I store them in an ABS pipe placed in back of the truck.

It keeps them clean and secure.

I'd hate for them to disappear while on the road.

I made a box for mine, out of scrap wood, lined with duct tape. It looks like an old style tool box with a handle on the top, an old piece of conduit. I can tilt the box as necessary to get the bars out, putting them in is easy. I can store in the back of the 4Runner and then take it out and store in the garage when at home. I can store the 'lifter' tool and greasy pins in it too. The pins are in a zip-loc bag that gets refreshed from time to time.

The hitch I store in any available cardboard box, near the AS door, recycles piled on top. The cardboard keeps dirt off and it looks like a recycle bin

Is that 3" pipe? Both ends capped with 1 end cemented?
Looks like I could fit the bars, bag 'o clips and the lifting tool in there. I think I'd add something to keep it from rolling so I could carry in the 4Runner.
