I have an EZ Lift type hitch with weight distributing bars. I'm wondering if i'm supposed to grease where the bars snap into the hitch head. That part of the bar is getting pretty gouged up with use. Since I bought the hitch second hand it didn't come with instructions. Is wear there just a normal part of use, or should I be doing something else?
Grease them.
Only thing on the hitch they recomend not to grease is the cams on the Dual Cam Reese. On that use Vasaline. Needs the friction. Same with a Friction type sway control. Leave the slide dry.
I loaned my hitch to a buddy. Last thing I told him before he left was to grease. He didn't and gouged everything up.

Darn it, and I've been using it all summer like that! Well, I'll definitly start greasing it now. I suppose the ends of the sway control where it fits on the ball should be greased too?
Stephanie: If it helps you feel any better. Ours didn't come with any mention of greasing the bars, and the dealer didn't do it when he hooked us up either. When we pick up our rig from C&G, I'm going to ask them. If I learn anything different, I'll be sure and post.
If you have a Reese, I think you will find small holes in the top or side where the spring bars attach. Reese has a small plastic bottle of lube that can be squeezed to lube through the small holes .
I verified today with C&G... we have an EZ, grease the bars. The dealer did not tell us and we have the marks to prove it. Not a lot necessary to do the job.
You only grease the bars where they fit into the hitch head.
I have the Reese Dual Cam and Saddle. You don't grease the cam and saddle because the friction is the anti-sway control mechanism of the cam and saddle.
On friction anti sway mechanisms you do not grease the friction slide.
You do grease all weight distribution bars where they fit into the hitch head however.
One additional word on grease. You need to keep the area clean. Grease will attract dirt and grit which does its own damage. So be sure you attempt to keep the greased areas clean prior to applying additional.
