Coupler won't allow the ball to seat

On our first trip coming back, hooking up I could not get the shoe coupler to seat all the way around the ball... It appears the shoe coupler is getting in the way of the ball just slightly... I tried moving back and for while hitched to see if it would properly seat...but still it would not seat all the way. I put silicone spray on it to see if it would help...but again no. Can you adjust the shoe coupler??
I have a 2019 International Sig 28 RBQ

The hitch coupler works best if the trailer coupler is a little behind the ball. With a little lube, it should slide forward as it comes down.

If the trailer is a little too far forward, the connection is very difficult.

This may seem silly but I had the same problem starting out. When you lift up on the ball latch you then push the latch toward the trailer. It will move 3/4 of an inch and carry the tongue below with it.

If this isn't it, then I am the only one to have this problem!!

It took me about 20 minutes to figure that out my first time out.

Hi

On a brand new hitch, the parts have not yet worn it. There are rough edges here and there that keep things from sliding as easily as they will later on.

hitching up

The answers above are 100% right. Don't back your TV too deep into the ball or it won't sit properly and won't latch. Back it up so you can still see a small part of the ball and then the trailer will slide nicely over it and latch properly. Hope this helps. It takes a few attempts to get it right but you'll perfect it soon.

Hitch hard to latch

I had the same problem, the dealer to 20 min. to attach it. I found moving the trailer up and down with the jack worked.

You can be too far back and get the retainer jammed under the ball. There should be a nut underneath that allows you to adjust the grip it has on the ball. If too tight it may not close and too loose it an come off the ball.
