Coupler lock recommendations?

Looking through the forums, I couldn't find anything on this, so I'll just ask-
anyone find a coupler lock that fits the rolled edge tongue of the A/S? I've looked at a bunch on line, and you can't tell what will fit. I did buy a tongue lock that had a ball to fit up into the tongue, and it had a hoop that was to go over the top, but the hoop was not wide enough to fit over the rolled edge. If you use a tongue lock on your A/S, what make and model is it?

Hi, I use the Guardian G-37. I ordered it from the factory because no-one stocks it. Camping World said they would order it for me, for list price plus shipping. No Thanks. I like the way it works and the round key too; But it fit a little too loose for my like'n. I cut a horse shoe shape of rubber from the side wall of a tire and glued it inside of the coupler lock. [shown in the second picture] Now it fits nice and snug, and won't chip my paint.

What are folks using who have "Hensley" or "ProPride" hitches?

By its nature, a Hensley or ProPride makes it a little more difficult for a would be thief. The thief would have to come prepared with the appropriate hitch bar or spend a lot of time removing the Hensley or ProPride.

What I sometimes do with Lucy's Hensley is store the hitch bar up side down in the hitch box with the over center latches in place secured by a pad lock.

This is by no means fool proof. The best you can hope for is to make it take long enough to steal your trailer that they will seek an easier target.

This will work for the smaller trailers. If you get into larger ones. The lip is larger and it will not fit. I went with a Master lock. I looked on thier site and it looks like they do not sell my style an longer.

Hi, think about this again, Michelle; The Guardian G-37 will fit all rolled lip Airstream couplers. The one you tried was very similar, but a different brand. And you said that you would have to grind off part of the rolled lip to make it fit. I don't remember what brand it was that you tried, but it wasn't a Guardian. [I think you had the Gorilla brand]

I Also use DT-25013 except the KA version which has the same key as my DT adjustable hitch. It costs a couple bucks more but that way I don't have to drag bunch of keys with me.

One cool thing about this lock is that in addition to locking the coupler on my beloved streamer, I can also use it as a wheel lock on my bike. You can put the lock's metal bar between your spokes and lock the wheel . On a bicycle you can put it around the tire but on a motorcycle it has to go between the spokes because the tire is too fat. That way I get three uses out of it for the price of one.

I don't think the guys from DT intended it for using on bike wheels but it works pretty cool for that too.

One more thing. You can also flip the lock's metal casting upside down to get more circumference out of the bar when locking bike wheels.

I wish my girlfriend was so versatile.

I ended up ordering the DT for about $35 and free shipping from trailerhitchsource. Already have it and it fits well. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions!

Arent you glad you have all this help. I didnt and went blindly into the night.I ordered two that had to be sent back,that didnt fit,what a PITA .I think you have choosen wisely. I ended up with the U bolt type ,it works well but as far as I know has never been tested and I hope it never is.
Like someone commented above,if they really want your trailer they will come prepared and ya cant stop em. The best we can do is a thief's worst nightmare,SLOW EM DOWN so they are noticed and they really dont want that.

Not a good solution. You can easily cut through a chain with a $20 bolt cutter from walmart, or even a hacksaw, but you can't cut through a good hardened coupler lock.

The best coupler locks out there use hardened steel, and a bolt cutters can't touch them. A cutter will break if you try to cut through a hardened steel.

BTW the same applies to hitch pins. I had a very nice adjustable hitch stolen three years ago, some jerk just cut the hitch pin with bolt cutters and took my hitch. So now I got a "self locking" hitch and you can't touch it.

Also a chain and a lock will cost you probably $15 and a good coupler lock will be in range of $35. Its a few more bucks but it is well worth it.

Well, it depends on the chain and lock. There are various tradeoffs to be made in convenience, cost, weight, and security.

As others have noted the presence of a HAHA or PPPPP is itself a deterrent to theft due to its unfamiliarity and the fact that the stinger can be stored securely. A thief would be well-prepared indeed to have both a pair of boltcutters and a stinger in hand.

i also use the DT-25013 as my main security lock.

also, when at a site or when my AS is in storage i use a masterlock 187-KA shrouded padlock after removing the pivot lock hitch pin on the ball receiver.

and lastly, a good receiver lock when on the road.

my reese hitch is only on my TV when i am towing. otherwise i keep it in my garage.

Yes, the hardened chain will be effective but in this case the price of the two feet chain with a hardened padlock will be 2 to 4 times higher than the cost of a good coupler lock. But hardened chain is also a viable sulution.

The original question, was what do people who have HAHA or PPPPP hitches use. A coupler lock is impractical with these hitches.
