Choosing the right shank?

Does anyone have written down the distance from the ground to the top of your FC 25 hitch? I need to order a hitch and shank for my soon to arrive trailer, and want to be sure I select a shank with enough drop.

I don't have access to another 25' FC, so wondered if someone could help me out with your dimension? All I need is to get in the ballpark; I'll fine tune it when the trailer and TV are together.

Thanks!

Used to be around 19 inches on most AS, but others will have the correct amount.

My 2008 Class 25fb is about 21" from the lower lip of the tongue to the floor when level. The ball looks about 23". My AS has 15" rims.

New Airstreams with 15" rims are currently running 21" but the axles will settle a 1/2" in the first few thousand miles. 19' Airstreams are 1" lower.

When you are ordering a shank get one that keeps the ball as close to the bumper as possible. For a standard height Eaz-Lift has the best one. If you need an extended drop there is not really a good one on the market. We have ours built by a very capable machine shop in order to get a good one.

What is your tow vehicle and which hitch system are you using?

Hi Andy,
I'm using an F-150 + FC25 and will be using the Eaz Lift 1400# you suggested. I was just trying to do a bit of "prevent defense" and assess whether the Eaz Lift shank would have enough drop for this combination. If it didn't, and the TT and hitch were on-hand, I'm in trouble!

You think the Eaz Lift 48120 shank will have enough drop?

It should be close enough to get you on the road and to an rv place for the correct size. My local dealer has an assortment on hand.

the owners manual or air stream service can give you the correct height.
the sales brochures list it under specification and floor plans as hitch ball height

best and simplest answer ... ?

I think a couple posters got up this morning with the left foot....
Seems a little grouchiness is happenin around here ...

folks...
read the OP ... I assume with 10000 posts and 600 posts respectively its not too much to ask ...

the OP does NOT have the trailer in his possession .... not to easy to measure anything, right ?

I was told a different number from my dealer before I picked it up, and promptly had to adjust my hitch, which takes time and would have been better spend having the dealer explaining a few more things, before the day was over .. and we needed to get going ...

hence the question is well worth asking and well worth getting a good answer

We use a Equalizer hitch. It is available in many RV supply stores. The web site is helpful on selecting a hitch and shank. The height is listed in the back of the owners manual. It lists 17.75 inches for that length of trailer. The same table lists the tounge weight too. You can download the manuals from Airstream.
