Choice of reese Hitch system

Hello.

I will be pulling a 31 ft Soveriegn with an F-250 Ford Lariat Diesel.
It has the 6.9 engine and is 4 X 4.

I would like some suggestions as to what I choose to purchase from the Reese line to pull the Soverign. At this time the Lariat has nothing but a bumper welded hitch for a light weight boat trailer.

I pull my 1986 31' Sovereign with a pick-up of similar power to your Ford, a GMC 2500 HD 4X$ 8.1L Vortec. I use the Reese Dual Cam, and it just pulls like a dream. I am on and off I-75 that runs north-south along the eastern interior seaboard - a very, very busy interstate, much like I-5 which I'm sure you hate as I do I-75. The big semi's blow by me like there is no tomorrow but I experience no real sway problems. I understand nothing equals the Hensley Arrow, including the price comparisons between it and the Reese. However, I have no plans to trade up, as I'm not sure how my current tow could be improved upon. One man's opinion, mind you.......

I use a Reese Dual Cam also. My Safari is very stable and at this point I see no future plans to replace it.

If I were going from scratch, the dual;-cam would be my choice. As it is, I already had my present DrawTite and saw no reason to change.

Can I use a Reese dual cam with an ordinary receiver hitch like those sold on Parts dot com.?

If I understand your questions, you are referring to the receiver that mounts to your tow vehicle. So long as it has a standard 2" square receiver and is rated for the weight of your trailer and its tongue weight, the Reese hitch head should work with the hitch. The hitch on my '75 Cadillac has a "generic" Reese equivalent system. The receiver on my Suburban is an OEM GMC item that was part of the factory equipment.

The important part is to have the Reese hitch head and properly matched spring bars (weight distributing bars). The Dual Cam system will be much easier to setup if the hitch head and bars are both Reese - - some bars and hitch heads from other manufacturers will work, but it is not always possible to know what will work and what will not without expensive trial and error.
