Bike Rack

Anybody use the Bike Bunk on their trailer frame? We have two bikes we want to tow with us.

Have not seen the one you referenced. We use this one, I've had it for four years, just mounted it on our trailer last fall. Well made, comes apart very easily. Bikes are held nice and tight on the rack. Good customer service.

We too are fans of Arvika, made here in Canada. We've had a 3-bike rack on our trailer for a few years now.







They're durable, highly configurable, and easy to use. On the other hand, they are not cheap and the website leaves a lot to be desired.

Seems like an awkward place to lift the bikes to when putting them up or taking them down. No?

I have the 23FB can you respond to some questions? Does it interfere with opening windows, getting to and filling propane, turning or viewing AS when driving, how about added tongue weight?
Don't know if many AS people go with this option.

plus they cause a LOT of wind drag.. they are probably 2-3 mpg off the usual low when hauling a tt. it disrupts the airflow over a airstream for sure.

I was trying to figure how to mount rack on back of 2005 classic with queen bed.

Interested to know how where you able to measure the effect of having bikes on the tongue, did you measure mph w/o bike and bike rack and then with? Thanks

Answer to your questions:

1. Yes the front large window cannot be opened with the bikes in place. Not a big deal for us as that window is seldom opened.

2. Removing propane bottles is not possible with the bikes in place, bikes need to be removed, tracks for bikes lifted up towards the trailer and then propane bottles can be removed.

3. Turning could be an issue with an SUV or a Pick Up with a full cap on it. We have a flat fiberglass cover on our F350 and it's not an issue so far.

4. Viewing not an issue.

5. Tongue weight is basically increased by the weight of the bikes and rack.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a bike rack that will handle a recumbent bike? Ideally, I would like install one on top of my hard tonneau cover on the back of the truck

I believe Thule/Yakima make recumbent racks to fit their roof bars. You can mount the roof rack bars to your tonneau cover or to the side rails of the truck bed.

We have short wheelbase recumbents and they fit nicely on the Airstream Fiamma rack. We bring the recumbents when we plan a trip with long trails on fairly level paved terrain. Otherwise its the mountain/trail crossover bikes.

I'm thinking now of going with the Fiona bike rack on the AS bumper. It is advertised on the AS website https://store.airstream.com/product/...kes-by-fiamma/
Has anyone had any experience with this rack? I'm wondering if it can cause any problems to the bumper bouncing up and down? Also where its attached to the back, where a rivet use to be can that present a problem?

Otherwise looks like a good solution for carrying bikes.
